It's costing the club more in lost revenue not getting rid.

| There has to be something going on behind the scenes IMO. The BOD have invested a huge amount of 'political capital' in supporting him at every opportunity in contradiction to what appears to be clear evidence of his failings. We've even had comments that 'coaches are not that important' FFS.
The other thing that puzzles me is the constant trickle of comment from people within the game (some of them pretty credible) that Agar is actually a good coach. Since we see no evidence of that on the pitch they are either all mistaken (unlikely) or something else is going on.
TBH I'm getting beyond caring. I just want things fixed.

I think there's a big distinction between being a good coach and a good head coach.

| When board members at the city's two clubs (or other clubs for that matter) talk about the massive passion of the fans, this has obvious positive connotations - loyalty, etc. There is also, perhaps, a subtler indication that they tend to be overexcitable and get carried away, making their judgement suspect. Agar does now need a run of results and I suspect is on his last chance, but the board's decision to stick with him a little longer is not illogical. Either things'll pick up and the negativity will die down or a new coach will be appointed and a new cycle of optimism will begin.

I agree, but some of what we're seeing on the pitch indicates problems with fundamental aspects of our game that any decent coach should be able to address.

It's this assumption that bothers me. I'm sure things [iwill[/i pick up from where they are now. Eventually. But when that happens, we'll still be an average, mid-table side. It's not [ijust[/i the fact that we're currently all but bottom of the competition that's bothering most people, it's the interminable mediocrity we seem destined to endure when that situation eventually changes.
Radford was in the paper the other day saying 'we can still make the top 6'. Well, so what if we do? That's no improvement on last year and, for a club like ours, shouldn't be seen as the pinnacle of achievement that it's touted as. Rule and his staff will probably try to convince us that sixth is a brilliant return given our appalling start, all the while ignoring the reasons for our appalling start.

| Quote ="Jake the Peg"We all (except for one) pretty much agree he should be gone so don't turn this into a discussion about that, but what I fail to understand is why the club have actually persevered with him when it's been obvious for most of his tenure that he's not capable of doing the job.
I do think there was an argument that we got rid of kear and sharp pretty quickly (although neither should have been appointed IMO) so that could be one reason they're showing a bit more patience, however after 3 years in charge he has failed to improve some of the most basic aspects of the game into his players.
So I ask what is the reason he is still here?
Is it because he has some kind of long standing friendship with kath, or is it because there are things going on behind the scenes we are unaware of meaning the current state of things is not down to agar?'"
I've, up until now, thought they're giving him a chance to prove he can cut it. He's been here a while, he was given the job and it was only last season they gave him a new contract, why offer someone a new deal and a few months later sack him and pay up a contract you've only just agreed. As fans, everyone (give or take one) would like to see him removed, Friday tipped it for a lot of people and it'll only get worse for Agar.

It all comes down to player focus imo. Agar seems to have a fundemental problem in motivating his players. When the players need less motivation (Wigan away, Hudds away) we seem to put in better performances. When the players really need their eyes kept on the ball, ie. friday night, it all falls apart.

| Here's my take on the Board's thinking:
To my mind, the Board believed he was the right man for the job which is why he was given the job and then had his contract extended. They obviously saw something in him and how he worked that they liked and believed in.
They believed that patience, support and time was needed to allow Agar to get the results they wanted.
Looking at last season, whilst most of us would have wanted a change, the team was extremely close to making 4th spot and, barring some horrendous injuries, they probably would have done.
This left them with a choice: do they keep him on or sack him?
Having decided that last season's results were satisfactory given the injuries, they decided there was no reason to remove him.
They then supported him in paying transfer fees for Westerman and Obst, as well as supporting him over the sacking of Tansey.
The publishing of the fixtures meant that they knew they were most likely in for a bumpy ride from the fans at the start of the season. Whilst hoping for the best (in terms of results), they were also prepared for the worst. They knew we were likely to be "not very many from six" when the season began.
They would have considered this before the start of the season and, probably, decided and agreed a point during the season at which they would review the team's progress. That review point was always unlikely to be that soon into the season, given the fixtures, and they did not want to make a knee-jerk reaction.
As fans, some of us would not have wanted his contract extended when it was, probably more than 50% of us wanted him gone at the end of last season and now the overwhelming majority of us want him gone immediately. At each of those points, the Board (with more information than we have) had to take a decision and, at each point, they have decided to support their man and you can see a case why they made the choice that they did. Albeit, a case that most on here would not support.
I believe that the review point is here or almost here that the Board would have agreed before the season started and Agar's position will be coming under serious scrutiny right now.

Tough sh*t.
What right do the players have to complain if he goes? Absolutely none. If they don't want him to go, and think that he's a good coach, they should pull their fingers out of their *rses and get playing better!
If he gets sacked despite them thinking he's a good coach, it's their own God damn fault.
Not one player in a team with the calibre of talent we have at Hull and the resources we have, has a right to complain if we're this poor. If they want to go with him, they can do.

From a business point of view, the Agar gravy-train has ended. That's why he should go. The fans turned on him Friday. That should have signalled the end. He no longer has the support, which means very few will be going anymore (edspite if we scrape a small win against Quins or Cas). They've lost all confidence that he is the man to take us places, and quite frankly have just lost all caring.
I just want him out so there's at least that false bit of hope that we could maybe turn things round under someone else. After Friday, 99% of the home fans have officially lost all hope, and that's where the money stops coming in. That's why I'm worried that the club could be on a downward spiral (if it wasn't already on one already).

I never understand why people place any store by this, the RL world is a pretty small close knit community and they all tend to stick up for their own. You'd get just as many people willing to tell you that Cullen and McNamara are great coaches.
