Oh give over. Powell is a decent coach and quite probably better than Radford but this is just ridiculous.

| Quote ="Carmine Galante"Kenny Penny is an interesting one because he will divide you depending on how you like to see the game played, I see him as a match winner, an althlete and an entertaining player. Radford would see a player like Penny as his worst nightmare. If I'm honest I'd much prefer to see him on the wing over Micheals, like I say the lads a smart player, solid but just lacks an 'X factor' for me. As a bit of counter though ball in hand he's certainly looked more dangerous in recent weeks so maybe more to come from him, and his try ratio has improved a lot. If we had a team full of mavericks and backs like Penny he'd add a lot of balance, but my gripe is that Radofrd would prefer the whole backline like this.
As for the centre debate as long as he knows the score I can't see anything wrong with having Tuimavave as our starting centre, maybe a gamble but seems to have the talent and pedigree, that's certainly not a stick to beat Radford with and personally am excited to see how he goes. My concern is that because he's played there so little he's bound to have a few poor defensive reads and positioning issues at first, and is also a naturally creative player so may also turn over a fair bit of ball and let's not forget only 22, so will he get long enough in the side before he's placed on the naughty step and his attitude brought into question? Going on what we've seen, I'm not sure Radford has the patience or know how to get the best out of such a player, not to mention the temptation to play Yeaman there too.'"
Michaels over penny all day for me. Penny struggled to get in a poor wire team all year.
Michaels defence is 1of the best in all outside backs in the league not just our club. Before it gets jumped on that its not a need for a winger id point u to lineham and anther loss the other night through poor defence. All micheals metres are always good. Runs much beyond his weight and plays with urgency. X factor is good. But how often does even the fastest of wingers score full lengthers? But how often do they need to carry, tackle, descision make. In fairness to michaels, some of his finishes in recent weeks have been tremendous
people talk of this naughty step. Players that have been on it have earned it.

Radford had a convo with crooks. Said he thought he was 2yrs away. He didnt like that so buggered off. If he comes good next year thats 2yrs.
radford gave him every chance in the last year. Only thing he couldnt do was make the tackles for him,or carry the ball stronger,or make less errors.
Gentle created a system to protect him and utilise his attacking skill. Tied up 2 other players though who played purely to provide and protect him.
Radford didnt believe that was realistic. So when back to conventional methods crooks was exposed.

You can't believe that I believe that Powell is probably a better coach than Radford? Maybe your comprehension skills need a brush up.
I use the phrase 'quite probably' because matches between the two sides this season have been shared 50/50 and the loss on Friday was down to errors by some individual players rather than one side being coached better than the other. I don't think Powell is as good as some seem to think TBH. And just being a bit better than Radford does not make him 'one of the best coaches in SL'. It's a low bar.

| Yay, another Radford thread.
I like Michaels. His improved form has felt like we've made a mid-season signing. I'm happy to have him for another year.
And I think he's quick.

His improved form may be due to having a proper centre inside him. And yes he is quick and he's a good defender too.

People who already have their set agendas will blame Radford for anything and everything, no matter how stupid it makes them look. For what it's worth, Michaels has got better and better as the season has gone on. And Watts has really bloomed under Radford's coaching. However, I do think there are players like Westerman and Thompson that have either stagnated or gone backwards. I think it's important to not be blind to the successes though, and not exclusively point out the failures.

And I think it offers a different look to our team. Everyone in the league has known how to defend against Yeaman for nearly a decade. Having Logan there, despite his relative inexperience, will create doubt in the minds of defenders and create a little extra space and time for him and his winger.
Does anyone know if Logan is okay after Friday? It'd be nice to see those two continue to develop their partnership.

'" That's partly why Crooks started so well. Teams had never played against him. Watching him on video is nothing like playing against someone new, and they soon worked him out, like most other players, to a degree, I guess.

He'll be the same as when he left us. An instinctive attacking player with poor physicality, and poor defense. Not too dissimilar to Craig Hall but with less pace, and probably slightly less adventurous.

Guess we will see soon enough... the player I watched make dream team a couple of seasons back doesn't fit your description (granted defensively their were bad moments).
I think he will come back to haunt us (and by default prove LR was wrong to let him go, and that Powell really is a very good coach)

| Powell is a good coach, but let's not pretend he makes every player into a world beater, Scott moore, Taney and Gibson are good examples. This isn't to say that he won't improve Crooks, but it will take hard work from Crooks and an improvement in attitude on what he showed at Hull.
Back on Michaels, certainly proved me wrong, although he was average at the start of the year, but has really improved and deserves a new deal. I still would have him as a backup next year though.

The Powell v Radford thing is interesting. I just think that the whole is less than the sum of the parts as far as we are concerned whereas with Cas it's the opposite. Is that because Powell is a better coach and gets more out of the team or because our individual players just keep making "one off" mistakes which destroys all of Radders good coaching? With the exception probably of Carney and Millington I would have said that we would/should be better or equal man for man in every other position. It was an exciting and entertaining game and everyone seemed to give their all but we lost and in the end it probably could have been by more. Radford is effectively saying that the players aren't good enough or aren't performing well enough but how many of the Cas players would you say would improve us other than the two mentioned?

| Can't fault Steve Michaels' approach to games since he's been here. He's not a world beater but there's not been a single time he's half dly stuck an arm out with no intent to tackle an opposition player. Good example of Radford getting the best out of a player with limitations I would say.

| That is not how I understand it. Apparently the good season he had, and made the dream team, had gone to his head but with Radford being the only one who thought this!! Radford thought it would be good to reel him in a little bit and not give him a game. I am well aware he needed to bulk up a bit, and definitely needed to work on his defence. But I thought the kid had real class. Ryan McGoldrick said he was the most underrated player he's ever seen.
Answer me this; How does a player go from being in the dream team one season, to not getting a game the next? Form is temporary, Class is permanent. You don't lose all your skill in an off season.
Michaels on the other hand has been a nice little find, and scored some good tries. He is highly dependable and is work rate is top notch. Well worth a second season in my opinion

If you had watched his performances in the NRL as I did then you would know he was a bloody good tackler for his size, his tackling was bob on from the get go & nothing to do with Radford frankly.
