| cant complain. any win at this time of the season is a good win for me.
defence seemed pretty good, only conceded one try (which to me looked touch and go, wouldve been interesting to see a video call on that)
sneyd and kellys kicking game looked good.
same stand out players ellis and houghton. think fonua should be back on centre though 'toforafiver' out and bring stevie back in.
all round, 2 points in horrendous conditions. against a wakey team, that i think will go well this season.
big pat on the back for all the players and supporters

It's probably the toughest team sports game in the world. They unless the very top end don't earn much at all if you weigh up they get about 10 years of earning potential
I lived with a player few yrs back who was playing 1st grade whilst still on his youth contract. Less than 20 k. Missed his 18th. Missed family weddings. Missed most his mates and family bday nights out for games and training. Used to force feed himself to get the size on required and get in bed as a youngster at 8 o clock every night
Then end of the yr whilst back in reserve grade got snapped back in a tackle and had to have 2 operations on 1 ankle and 1 on the other knee.
Couldnt get around for about 6 weeks and had to live downstairs
Then come the next season he was ready after slogging himself to fitness. Played the yr still on peanuts he injured his other ankle and required surgery on that. He was 20 and had 3 oppertains
A story like loads of players. Who'll be limping and hobbling around in their retirement years. Many of whom at 30 odd will have to find real world jobs for the 1st time as all they'll have done is rugby because a lot/most will not have earned remotely enough to retire
So yeah its just like driving a lorry jesus

A lorry driver "being involved in multiple 20-30 mph crashes" will have a shorter career than a rugby player lol seriously though your right, his post was LUDICROUS!!!!!

| Conditions were awful and I thought we handled the conditions a little bit better. The decisions to go for goal on 3 occasions in the first half was good game management by us. Thought Sneyd was patient with his kicking game and we didn't panic too much when the clock was ticking down. Kelly got a lot of traffic thrown at him and handled it very well. Agree that when Ellis, Manu and Watts went off we looked a lot weaker. Taylor played well and put in a big shift. Happy to have the 2 points on the board and winning start to the season.

Fully agree with Bumpy & Runninglate on this one. From personal experience, after playing on a Saturday afternoon my body will be in the most pain on the Monday 2 days afterwards. 3 days simply isn't enough time to recover and prepare properly between games.
PCollinson is an interesting new poster.

Leeds had 3 kickable chances from penalties against Saints and turned them down, yes you never know if they might have kicked them and how those kicks in turn effect the game from thereon in (even after the first kick0 but there's a very good chance they could have won the game if they had taken the chances.
Making those smart choices in those weather conditions ultimately was the difference between winning and losing.

| There was a stat on the Friday night game saying we had only won once in our last 5 visits to Wakey,if so then to grind out 2pts is a very good effort in conditions that didn't suit us like they did last yr arguably.Been reading about the 5th prop scenario,we cant carry another top rated prop as it would be a waste nut we could use Ellis for a stint at prop during a game or start him if one of our props are injured and put Washy in at 13

| Looked at the stats, big efforts from efforts from Taylor, Ellis, Houghton (52 tackles) and Watts. All the backs made very useful metres too
Very good defensively only 10 missed tackles and few errors 9, which is amazing in those conditions.
Bench impact is the disappointing one, hopefully Hadley and Bowden will be back next week and youngsters like Masi and Turgut, can put pressure on those bench players to up their game.

Bit odd that seeing as we won there twice last year.
Still its a difficult fixture and one that you can't just turn up to and expect to win so well done Hull for the 2 points.

| Someone mentioned above, but i think we could use Ellis as the 5th prop, and either Washbrook or Connor could slot in at 13. I think Connor could be a good player from 13, use as a pivot and then Shaul can be used to support

The bench impact was a point i was trying to make given the expected conditions at Wakefield
Great that we won the game but as you say the bench impact was disappointing and i think Masi or Fash should have been given a run.

I thought the rotation worked quite well. Bringing Ellis, Manu and Watts back on for the last 20 did the trick as the impact was clear. Also, having Connor there meant he could jump into cover Shaul without shuffling anyone else around. Worked pretty well, but will be even better with Bowden replacing Thompson IMO if the same is required.

| full game on fctv since this morning .. real treat !. its a good win when you look at pitch and playing conditions. also players lost respect for ref -all having a go in last 15 mins. he missed a lot of forward passes on all wakefields attacking /scoring plays. bet the pitch is nearly a write off now after the double header on it !. proper game possible on a decent pitch coming up v cats... real test with 15 k crowd.

It was more a 30/10 wasn't it? Fabulous kick!!
The most pleasing thing for me was our game management. Last season it was well known that we struggled in wet conditions whereas yesterday we were patient, took the points on offer and ground out a very tough but welcome win. Kelly is a tough little cookie and made some really hard tackles and well, Ellis needs cloning because he's simply immense...I was all hot and bothered when he was warming up to go back on in the second half
I think Radders is bob on in his summarisation of Sneyd. He's maturing into a very smart player and I think we're going to get some excellent play from him this season now he's got the creativity of Kelly alongside him.
I'll also be 'man' enough to admit I though it was a mistake to have Connor on the bench considering the weather, but in Radders we trust and he obviously knew that Shaul was having twinges in the hamstring and that the extra back on the bench was needed.
Wish Catalan was this Thursday!!!

| Kelly been charged for the high tackle directly before got turned over and hull got penalty taking them downfield for their try to win.
Shame the ref missed it and as it transpires it ended up being a big miss by the ref with hull scoring off the next set.
Think Ashurst was in a bad way by sounds of it. Hopefully he's alright, very underrated. But if luck going your way that.
Enjoyed the game though, two forwards going at it all game.

Great post. it might be a dream job to a lot on here but it's a hard job as far as professional sport goes. Unlike top footballers can anyone seriously begrudge these lads there wage. Rugby isn't just a job for most players it's a passion and way of life. The fact a lot of pro's spend their time off coaching youth and open age amateur teams proves their love for the game

To be honest I'm surprised Washbrook, Houghton and the rest of the team weren't called up, your fans seemed ok after the match, but since then you have become right moaners, it seems all our points came from ref errors, players punching Wakey players, only Hull milking penalties and blatant cheating, Wakey playing champagne rugby while Hull just played one man rugby.
The ref made mistakes for both sides but we were just a bit better or smarter to take advantage, no mention of Grix elbow, very dodgy try and Finn doing what Houghton did (but that doesn't count as it wasn't in front of the sticks)
I hope Ashurst is ok and I'm sure Kelly will get some punishment, but you fans are quickly becoming the most biased in the game.
Maybe it's the poor view from the ground.
