Radford has been charged with a Grade A offence so it must be one of :

reaction to opponent - lashing out (possibly)
Punching - self defence (possibly)
Punching - minor (hardly)

which suggests the panel don't think it was unprovoked or he would have been charged with something more serious.

The guideline sentence is sending off sufficient/no further action to a one match ban.

Should that influence the punishment though? If you'd have held on to win would he have been more deserving of the 1 game ban?

Win or lose he missed 70 mins. If he'd have been sent off in the last minute i'd be more inclined to think a 1 match ban would be fair.

The result shouldn't influence the punishment, but the length of time he was missing probably should as it was practically the entire match.

So what happens if you get sent off smack on H/T....do you get a half a match ban?

Given the extent of the provocation I don't think Radford should be banned. It was a yellow and a half and Smith rounded up, IMO.

Given the apparently random and arbitrary nature of disciplinary panel decision I kinda doubt it.

Maximum penalty for a grade a is 1 match or SOS. To put this in perspective, Tickle was charged at Grade B for the derby for the melee that ensued.

The A grade is used mostly when there is a reaction to provocation so reckon he will get off .

Looks like going crazy and trying to headbutt players is OK from now on then. Roll on the derby and plenty of attempts from us that go unpunished.
