Forgetting Mr Agar for a second (Which shouldn't be very hard to do) lets think a little objectively about this appointment.

McRae seems to have failed everywhere he's been since Hull. He was also very close to retirement at the end of this season. That all appears to be bravado now but still, if he had, I wouldn't have been too surprised.

I don't want to come across harsh on the man, he's the first FC coach I can truly remember. As a kid I thought he was the knees of a bee, but I'm a little unsure now as to his credentials.

Maybe I just don't know what a DOR [iactually[/i is and I'm a little confused about his role. That might be creating the doubt.

Will the new coach be working under him? If so, will every candidate want to do that?

Agar is gone.

However a little restraint might be in order.

Can we fully clarify what he'll do, recruitment aside, 'Shaun will be responsible for all aspects of the playing side at the club' seems a little vague to me.

I like many believed he would stay due to the recent PR coming out of the club lately.

So who's making the signings ? Mcrae or the new coach ?

I expect a bit of both if the new coach has been decided.

As overjoyed as I am by this announcement, I genuinely feel sorry for Wakefield fans. If they were desperate to see the end of Kear, god knows how they will react to this news.

The new Head Coach will report directly to McRae, as will the coaches of the youth teams. I imagine he'll have a lot of say in recruitment/retention, bringing through youngsters and setting specific playing targets.

Why would Gentle want to be Mcrae's assistant?

Shaun will be responsible for all aspects of the playing side at the club and will operate as a Director of Hull FC.

Infact which top coach would?

If he can put together a side with the quality of the likes of Smith/Smith/Barnett/Prescott/TKL/Chester McMenemy etc, and play a similar brand of rugby, I'll be very happy indeed.

indeed, McRae is a mistake.

Why is he a mistake? He had problems with the previous board hence his departure. Rather than being a yes man he stood by his principals.

IMO MCrae will be an interim/temporary appointment until the squad and coach are all sorted.

Perhaps explains wht we have posted 150 points in the last 3 games! The players playing open rugby, relaxed, confident, pressure off!

All coaches ultimately report to the BOD (or the owner). McRae will merely be the person on the board to whom our particular coach reports. I think it's a good idea to have someone overseeing playing matters who has direct experience in that area - it leaves the Head Coach to concentrate on getting the first team playing at the level they ought to be playing at.
