| Quote ="al283"So So Disapppinting.
Dropping a few will make little to no difference, our entire game plan is dreadful. Hearing Lasty bemoaning errors 'coming out of yardage' spoke volumes for me. We PERSIST in one out barges in our own half - where almost every time our lone soldier gets met at the gainline, mullered & then turned on his back, necessitating a very slow play the ball which leads to slow service to another lone runner who meets a very quick advancing defensive line................... oh & then we kick it back to them & have to defend against quick play the balls, multiple bodies in motion & creativity in play. No wonder our guys are gassed !!!!
Our gameplan is SOOOO Flawed & ten years out of date. I really thought the break would change things ??
Can't believe how easily we are outflanked by almost every team, often with just conventional passing - BUT opposition draw a man before passing unlike our 'shovel it on 10 metres from the gainline'. You know like we were all coached to do as 8 year olds.
Really feel for AP, his face was thunder & nobody should doubt his passion. In the clubs defence this squad was assembled to play Bradford Bulls Rugby - the COVID version of the game is not suited to this squad.'"
His passion is not in doubt but his decision making has proved to be flawed. He is solely responsible for the situation he finds himself in. Bradford Bulls rugby was obsolete well before Civid-19 became an issue as was recognised by many of your supporters.

| Only just had chance to watch it, we stunk the place out.
No idea, no pride in the jersey.
Last has had enough time to change things even if by a small amount, but he hasn't, enough time to motivate the players to get back to match mentality but that hasn't happened.
IMO 6 seasons of Radford drummed into him as an assistant was never going to disappear, honestly I don't blame Last, he's never been head coach material or has been happy to just be an assistant which indicates same thing, he's a stop gap in order to keep players going through the training, he has to say the right things even if he doesn't have the ability to actually change/motivate players to be better. I never had any illusions that things would change but this performance was just as pathetic as other Radford coached wallopings. Pearson should have used the postponement of the season to rethink and simply get shot of Last at the same time
If we continue to play like we did yesterday or don't improve much/get results then Pearson is in an even worse position than ever before. Lots of players on big contracts not performing as we expect, little desire from too many players, a youngster pool that doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders, and honestly hasn't for some while.
This means fans less likely to want to spend money on a membership (which could also be for other non playing reasons), less value for sponsors going forward so that might well also be affected.
As others have said, we need a clear out, a coach with firm ideas that doesn't involve bish bang wallop as our primary mode of winning games, from that not having a plan B is something that is the wrong way of thinking. An effective coach understands that you exploit all aspects of your squad that means you're far more rounded in terms of attack and defence.
Basically someone who understands the value of basic rugby league football skills both in attack and defence, someone who can actually manage players as a manager, isn't afraid to make the tough decisions without needing to use blunt force as the only way to attempt to modify things
I don't know how much Pearson has got left in him to want to invest money in the club, so much good work has been undone and squandered, Pearson, our club is IMO behind where we were when Gentle took over on the basis of what I watched and what went before
Tough times for fans

That's very impressive from Carlos, he's performed very consistently and rarely has an off day, he's 7th in the Tackle bust count and Griffin is 2nd.

| Just thankful we weren't playing St Helens yesterday. Salford were good but the thought of Grace and Makinson up against our wingers... Saints could easily have put 70 or 80 on us.

We tend to turn up against better opposition though, it's running out expecting to win that ruins us.

| No disciplinary issues for us this week thankfully, just Andre Savelio cautioned for raising a knee.
Peter Mata’utia has been given a two match penalty notice for a dangerous lift and will miss both games against us, Super League next week and the Cup the week after.

I think we'd get at least some value out of the rest of his contract if he was used as an impact player from the bench - and NOT on the wing.
The fact he was let-go after a year back in Australia says it all to me.

What an odd statement...we weren't playing Saints and thus there is absolutely zero logic in the above statement.
"I am just glad that we weren't playing the Brazil 1970 World Cup team in Mexico City at football..." makes about as much sense.

Even tougher times for A. P.
I saw the look on his face and it was thunder. He said recently that money is tight so no coach coming in. How long he’ll want to keep bank rolling us is anyone’s guess but if he could I reckon he’d sell up.
Having said that he does seem to be a tad naive when it comes to rugby, had his small and curlies twisted well and truly by McRae then Radford, so who told him Last would be any different

| I understand that it's disappointing but we have to bear in mind that this was Last's first ever game as a head coach.
He's going to take time to get used to the role and make the adjustments he's been talking about in the press.
AP has indicated he's got until at least the end of the season so I think we owe him a duty to get behind him and not write him off before he's had a fair crack of the whip.
Hopefully things will pick up over the next week or two and at the end of the season he will be able to clear out a few, that TBF should have gone a while ago, and really make it his team.

it's not an odd statement, Saints are arguably a better team than Salford, there's a high likelihood we would have unravelled even earlier against a better team and shipped even more points. Not always going to happen as we know, each game is different, but allowing for the fact we have been bang average for some period and based on that performance and what Saints have done after the season restart then it's a perfectly logical assumption we would have had more points put against us!
Your Brasil analogy to denounce the previous poster has zero logic in it, unlike the previous posters, soccer is a different sport and a team that are either in their late 70s/early 80s or have passed away, utterly dumb comparison!

We OWE Last absolutely nothing, it's this out of date faux loyalty that makes us less effective and sticking to players/staff that will continue to mean we don't get the right staff on/off the field and thus not getting results.
Last has been at the club for over a decade in a coaching capacity, the lead youth team coach and assistant at a top tier club for years, he's apparently being stricter with the players https://www.totalrl.com/hull-players-fa ... ng-regime/ with apparent approval from the captain and others, he's had plenty of experience in a coaching capacity so excuses on the basis its his 'first game as head coach' , it simply doesn't wash!
From TRL
The interim coach revealed last week that he had implemented a system of fines to ensure the Black and Whites’ playing squad were being held accountable for their actions on a daily basis.
Houghton, who admitted to falling foul of the system already, said it had helped instil a different environment within the camp.
“That was one of the biggest things that needed to change,” Houghton said.
“I think everyone’s application and how they’re going about things is top-drawer at the moment.
“We’re only in our second week of training, so that’s going to be the test, when boys start getting tired and fatigued later in the year; that’s when the standards need to be kept high and the senior boys need to drive those standards and make sure we don’t slip, because we’ve tended to slip too often in previous years.
“It’s a big thing moving forward for this group to get to the next level and competing where we were.”
When asked to elaborate on punishable offences, team-mate Josh Griffin butted in and said: “Breathing!”
“Yeah, you’re not allowed to breathe in camp so that’s a big problem for all the boys,” Houghton joked.
“But no, just tightening things up really, not leaving things lying about, not being late for appointments, being on time for training, all those small things.
“We’re just trying to tighten all those little areas to make us more accountable for what we do on a daily basis, rather than letting small things that don’t count too much slip in, which in the past has maybe had an effect on the field.
“It’s been good and the boys have bought into the changes.”

| The more that comes out, reading between the lines it looks like Radford was too cosy with some members of the first team squad.
I don’t see this fine thing as a positive. I find it depressing that’s it’s needed at all.
I think the attitude at the club is actually worse than I thought it was. I thought naively that changing the coach would bring a new direction. The problems seem entrenched, and have been allowed to become part of the culture of the club.

As I said. I understand the frustration but Pearson has said that the coffers are empty and as a consequence AL will get his chance to stake his claim for the job.
We are where we are. If AL doesn't deliver the goods we might not have a club next year so I'm praying he can turn it around.

I responded because you said that "we have to bear in mind" (the result) because it was his first time as head coach and getting used to being in charge, sorry but IMO that really doesn't cut it as an excuse for that performance, not since the noises coming out the club as I linked to.
What 'coffers'? Is Pearson stating that he has no money personally, it's his company right, he's basically then said -by saying there's no money in the coffers, that he no longer wants to invest in the company he owns.
Clever move, basically showing us he now has lost interest in the club and cutting his losses, that attitude of no money (after piddling away a ton on players like Fonua that we didn't need) will never see us move forward.
His gamble of employing an inexperienced ex player as a coach has cost him massively - so much so there's apparently no money and no interest in financially wanting to invest, consistently poor results, unhappy fans that are less likely to buy into the club because of those performances, it's cost us the fans in terms of a long term strategy/future.
Boom and bust has never being the way for long term success both sporting and finance wise, yeah two CC wins were great but critical mistakes have cost the club/fans of so much more. Hanging onto Last as an economic solution just tells me all I need to know about where Pearson is with the club.

We cannot just write the season off. The club needs to encourage supporters to renew their memberships for 2021. People have not attended games since March and many will have got into the habit of not going and of spending their cash elsewhere (and many will be losing their jobs of course).
It's going to be a challenge for all clubs to get people to buy memberships/season tickets with blind faith that we will be able to see games in person. If we write the season off and finish in the bottom four it'll be even harder.
Furthermore it's easier said than done offloading players who are under contract.

Surely playing rubbish, consistently is a breach of contract and a sackable offence?

| Quote ="Lang Park"I understand that it's disappointing but we have to bear in mind that this was Last's first ever game as a head coach.
He's going to take time to get used to the role and make the adjustments he's been talking about in the press.
AP has indicated he's got until at least the end of the season so I think we owe him a duty to get behind him and not write him off before he's had a fair crack of the whip.
Hopefully things will pick up over the next week or two and at the end of the season he will be able to clear out a few, that TBF should have gone a while ago, and really make it his team.'"
Last must of thought he could do the job needed.
Although it was his first game, he has had plenty of time to prepare.
He knows the players and what they are about.
The main problem/worry is that nothing has changed

Would and will be another huge mistake by the club as was the interim appointment of Last.
I voiced my opinion of Radford many times and the same when Last was appointed.
He should have gone along with Radford not effectively promoted for failure.
To sit for several years as a cushy number two seeing the outdated style of play, lack of line speed and player movement and not do anything about it then you are not a future S/L coach. If the coach doesnt listen to you then if you have anything about you you look for another job.
We hear all the time from the club how good training was but nothing has changed.
The first thing you expect to see is some changes on the field.
yesterday was a disaster and i fully expect Last to be relieved of duties following defeats to Castleford next week and the following week in the C/C.
I couldnt see one change in style of play yesterday.
Same old deficiency in the opposition 20,slow play the ball,no player movement, riddled again with errors and defence a joke.
We must be the only team in S/L that cant stretch the opposition wide and score walk in tries
Last will obviously make changes but they wont be to the players that deserve to be dropped.
Ratu is an easy option and will be dropped even though i would still play him
Houghton,Shaul,Fonua,Griffin,Bowden and Sneyd all deserve to be dropped but maybe only Fonua will.
I also think Last made a selection error in starting with Sao and Ellis as the front row..We were weak in the front row and would have been better starting Bowden with Sao and having Gaz and Satae with Jack Brown on the bench. That would have been a better interchange impact.

| Earlier in the year I spoke with a higher up at the club and casually mentioned that Evalds was off contract. I was literally told, why do we need Evalds when we have Jamie Shaul?
There seems to be a lot of loyalty towards the cup winning side, and if that is from higher ups, then the coach doesn't really have much input!

And would he have confirmed that we were after Evalds? I doubt it.
