| Having just seen the video myself, I have to say with all the uproar i was expecting a hell of a lot worse. Imo contact was heading for chest until Simon head dips down, we see far worse unpunished tackles every week in every game, we still see cannon ball tackles go unpunished in live games. Ellis is committed to tgat tackle and the late drop of head is unfortunate and to late for ellis to pull out. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a caution with ellis exemplary record but more likely 1 game egp. Mountain out of molehill spring to mind.

| Quote ="Bal"I think he probably should have been sent from the field, yes. It's careless contact with the head from a strike, which is a red card offence. I think he will get Grade B, and get 2 matches, if he'd have been sent off Grade B, 1 match. Just my opinion.
The worst case scenario is that the disciplinary committee class it as reckless and upgrade to C, which is 3 matches, but I don't think you can class that as reckless.
Of course, we haven't seen the other challenge which is suppose to be as bad, if not worst.'"
1. It's not a strike. It's a tackle.
2. It's not careless. The tackle is aimed squarely at Simon's chest/arm and Simon's head dips into line at the last second.
3. There is no possible way Ellis could pull out of that tackle in time once Simon's head ducks down.
4. Interesting that the clip has only been shown in slow motion, which makes it look as bad as possible.
Sometimes stuff just happens and it's nobody's fault.

It's not a straight arm.

I'd take that under advisement if you weren't being condescending.

I agree. I posted the picture earlier on that shows hit arm would have hit his chest if Simon's head had stayed at the same level.
However, he did, none the less make contact with the head as a result of an extended arm, and I think they will class that are a "careless strike to the head", which is Grade B.
I hope I'm wrong and your right.

| Just a mistimed forearm in the face. You see this all the time in the NRL and at the most it ends with a penalty and a player being placed on report, the majority of the times the referee just tells the player to get on with it and play the ball, the video ref included .......Rugby is a contact sport believe it or not!

It's difficult to effect a tackle without extending your arms. In fact if you keep you arms down you're likely to get pinged for a shoulder charge.
It's always a dice roll with the Panel but it will be a bollox decision if they charge him at all IMO.

| Quote ="pmarrow"A few things to consider.
1) The video has being shown to make Ellis look as bad as possible. At real speed I doubt it looks as bad as the video as it will show it is near impossible for Ellis to pull out. - =#FF0000Whether he can pull out or not, he still was aiming for and hit him in the face
2) Simon falls into Ellis's arm, it was aimed at the chest this means contact was accidental and not reckless.
=#FF0000Either way, the rule is no contact with the head.
3) Despite this, it is Ellis responsibilty going into the tackle to make sure he does not make contact with the head, he is unfortunate and unlucky to make contact but the reality is he has. =#FF0000As above I agree
4) Michael Carter is being a cry baby and obviousley using this situation as an attempt to have a dig at the rfl. The whole everyones against us thing is rather precious and makes him look stupid, his players wont have being angels every tackle this season. -=#FF0000 I agree. Really not what we want from our Chairman
All that said Ellis has a good record and a EGP and a one match ban is a fair result. - =#FF0000I'd like to have seen something done on field ( I can't actually remember whether we got a penalty but I didn't think so. We lost a player for a while as he was checked for concussion but Ellis isn't a dirty player so EGP is justified'"

That's fair enough IMO and what most fans expected, EGP, take the one match and back for the cup game.
Which challenge was this for?

Simon: Rule – 15.1(a) Detail – Striking – Strikes with arm/shoulder - reckless Grade – B
Tupou: Accidental clash of heads in the tackle. No charge.

| So in the split second between you going to wrap/attack the ball carrying arm and actual point of contact the players body shifts which otherwise no contact to head would be made you are to magically defying the laws of physics and physical ability of the human brain/body and adjust the trajectory of your tackle and the momentum involved?
Well scientists have shown that reaction times of a person in motorvehicles are around 0.7 seconds at the very best to an unexpected situation. That doesn't include the motor aspect of then applying a physical part of your body.
ANY charge would be cretinous but then that partly describes the system in any case.

| What annoys me is that Wakey fans are calling him a dirty player and say he had a cheap shot ,Ellis is not dirty and does not need cheap shots his tackling is hard enough to rattle players .On the video both sets of fans see it the way they want to see it,yes he clearly caught him and the law say any contact with head is foul play but was it deliberate No

So despite a few Wakey fans telling us that Ellis fouled Tupou with a shoulder charge, they were wrong, didn't Chester also moan about the challenge?
Maybe they should wait and watch the video before accusing a player of foul play and calling him a "thug" etc.

| My first thought on watching the video is that Ellis is probably unlucky that Simon moves down into the way of his arm, I also thought that Simon wasn't going anywhere so Ellis probably doesn't need to go in swinging his arm like that. Maybe he's trying to wrap the ball up, maybe he's trying to knock Simon to the ground who knows. Unfortunately he's caught his head and IMO is rightfully charged.

Not sure if the disciplinary webpage has been updated but it now says
RANGE OF RECOMMENDED SANCTIONS IN RELATION TO CHARGED GRADE* :
1-2. Early Guilty Plea Offered and Accepted. 1 Match Suspension
- See more at: www.rugby-league.com/the_rfl/dis ... LQIVu.dpuf
So guess w're without him for Friday?

| Best decision we could have hoped for imo, and fair enough imo. Ellis himself has admitted as much.
No Ellis next week is a blow! But I think he would have got 2 without the early plea.

It's a shame as there's a noticeable difference between the Hull team when he plays and when he doesn't. It gives someone else a chance though, and means he'll be fresh for Saints in the cup.

| Probably because the club know they have no chance of using logic to prove it wasn't reckless. Howcan you prove it WAS reckless would be my question, just by there being contact to the head, ..utterly ridiculous.
Take Catalans Stewart 'dangerous throw', deliberately lifted leg and only by luck did the tackled player land safely and gets off with caution for technique...lifting a leg in that manner is the definition of reckless and has known devastating consequences.
It's like being punished more for nudging a back bumper when someone goes to pull away then stops abruptly than drink driving and not hurting anyone...
The disciplinary is and has not being fit for purpose for a long long time.
On field decisions need to be reviewed there and then in any case as the team offended against invariably recieves no benefit.
