What are you talking about?
Forcing young players out of the game, by playing them in the reserves?

A reserve grade that his beloved Hull KR are hoping to run next year. Unless they get relegated.

We wanted to keep Hodgson, but there's something called that salary cap.
As for young talent, our FC supporting prop forward seems to be doing okay.
How many Dobbins products have you actually been able to keep hold of?

It's called a fair pay structure. Something we haven't had for a few years and we are still trying to put right.
How much are Campese and Kelly on again?.
Don't let the facts get in the way of your argument.

| Hoops is right and what a load of tripe there is in this thread! The Club has for almost three years been working at putting in place a banding system for wages which mirrors almost exactly what Leeds have operated for years. Players at different levels of development and experience are banded together which means its more equitable and you don't have players constantly looking over their shoulder at what others are on.
That banding exists at the top as well as at the bottom (and if you like admittance level). If you speak to employees they will tell you its a lot fairer, (Gareth Ellis even took a cut in wages recently) However it means that unlike the way some clubs operate you can't in desperation just pluck salary offers out of the air when it suits you, nor can you suddenly promote an unproved junior coming out of the academy onto a wage way above his banding within the organisation.
On the plus side however it does mean that we can employ more players and have a bigger squad unlike some clubs who have spent so much on two or three salary's they can't make anymore signings when injuries bite. Some scoffed at the size of our squad and our introduction of an Under 23's team this season. They ain't scoffing now as Mr Peacocks comments in todays Mail prove!

| Isn't it what scouts should be doing anyway spotting local talent? They asked my lad & a two others to go down just before the academy merger, we won national cups all hull finals Yorkshire cup finals & they never came & watched our games, yet we play our home games at st Richards, FC scouts at everyone of our home games, we should have never have merged the academies, as we was doing ok anyway, kr will benefit more then us. Imo.

| Structured/tiered wage structure obviously works in RL but it helps hugely when your club has a (recent) history of success. Everybody has to buy into the principle with the goal of success and all that that brings, monetary and otherwise.
x salary being offered to talented upcoming players on a balanced structure where players of similar exp etc are being paid pretty much the same could mean some feeling they are undervalued and they are worth more.
The amounts are clearly not huge so if there is a draw of more elsewhere combined with a perceived increased  chance to play first team rugby and in certain individuals case a drop in salary that obviously can effect a young lads decision.
If you

If arundel was still here this would of been a 120 k year for him
Miller would STILL be 125k
Think macdonnell would of been finished his 140k by now.
But there is a MASSIVE reason for a tiered system

| Regarding what Peacock has said, he has never said that he wants Rovers to start an U23's team, he said that he wants to start a reserve team .....It's just another term for the old "A" team format.
Do you remember the old "A" team format? .......It was competitive rugby played by youngsters coming through the ranks to play regularly against men instead of just training and then being thrown into first team rugby when the first team were injury ridden ......It was competitive rugby played by all those first team players that had experienced a loss of form and had a chance to prove themselves once again through actual playing time instead of just going through the motions of training ......It was competitive rugby that gave a first team player the chance to ease themselves back into competitive rugby after recovering from an injury .......And, it was competitive rugby that gave a player from the amateur game an opportunity to prove that they have the skills to make it in the professional game (Do you remember "A n other" and "S o else"?).
We all know that "A" team rugby is the right way forward for our game, but, unfortunately, the RFL are too proud and stubborn to admit that they made a mistake abandoning "A" team rugby in favour for the youth academy structure.
And, regarding the "fair pay structure" .......Is it fair to pay an up and coming local talent, say, 16 grand a year when they are performing at the best of their abilities and doing everything right in the academy structure then offer them 14 grand a year at the next contract negotiations?
If your employer did the same with you would you be ok with that? ......This is what I meant by forcing young players out of the game.
Personally, I think that young players shouldn't be paid until they are offered a contract to step up to the first team. They should seek a profession outside of rugby and play rugby for the love of it and aim to be a professional first team player ......Paying youngsters a wage to be a part of the academy structure only makes them vulnerable to feeling unwanted when they are offered less money or told that they are not wanted and makes them make the decision to turn their back on the game completely .......This is what the current academy structure is doing and has done for the previous years ......And we wonder why the game is growing less popular as the years go by!
