| It's the fact that he seems to be saying that a hard working coach is ok regardless of whether they have the first clue about how to motivate and coach a SL team. A busy fool and all that. The inclusion of a reference to this along the lines of "if what we're doing isn't working then we'll change it" would have at least showed that he understood that hard work alone wouldn't make FC a better club and would have perhaps made the piece more acceptable as what he did say , as others have said , was stating the "bleeding obvious" in the most part , ie , we're not good enough. It seems to mirror Radfords coaching excuse which is " I keep telling the players to win but they don't and I don't know what more I can do".

| Another point of note is the 'worst weekend in rugby league' opening. So worse than the Hudds debacle, the CC final embarrassment, and the 5 game losing run that was apparently the tipping point to sack the last coach. So he admits that we are performing worse than at all those times, but insists on sticking with things as they are and asks us to stay on board. It just doesn't make sense.

Working hard as a coach seems to be enough despite you being completely incompetent.
Doubt I'll be renewing my pass next year even if we do manage to stay up'"
So he wants us all to cheer and make noise and back the team, to help us win.
1, people are fed up of cheering rubbish, you just cany get exited about us at the moment, but there are the odd one or 2 who will blindly clap.
2, do the team really play better if we cheer? these are highly paid professionals, who AP and LR wanted here cos they are good and young, and "goers" as LR called them.
3, Being at home has had no "advantage" since about 2006, might as well play at a neutral venue now.

| Quote ="barham red"Pretty simplistic view that, if all a coach has to do is say 'go score loads of tries' and if the players don't then its their fault? If they do he's a genius. Think I could do that.
Think you need to look at what makes a top coach a top coach, motivation, training techniques, providing a nurturing environment, discipline, understanding and having a plan for the opposition, creating a playing ethos, hard work, financial backing and luck. Some people are cut out for this and others maybe aren't?
I listened to Radfords post match a few weeks ago after a loss and paraphrasing he said something along the lines of 'if you get in the positions to score enough times the team should score some points' I thought at the tiime that I'm pretty sure that's not how it works.'"
As an outsider (but I do go to the Hull FC games with Mr Wharfedale) Barham Red does seem to have a point. Granted it's the players on the pitch who do the work, but it's the Coach's job to make sure they do at least have a game plan. Also, to actually COACH, i.e. teach, train bring out the best in his team.
I don't think Radford is up to the job, or that his approach, such as it is, is suitable for a club with aspirations of a top 4/8 place.
He now has 'his' team. Injuries apart, he doesn't seem keen to keep players in their best position.
Perhaps Adam Pearson, let's not forget he is the man bankrolling the club, should go to a few other rugby league games not involving Hull FC and see how entertaining and exciting games can be and then ask the question of Radford...'Why can't you teach (coach) Hull to at least try and play like that?'

| This all comes down to one decision for me, either I stop supporting the club I love or continue to go and support it despite the obvious issues that need addressing. If enough people decide to do the first option in protest of the current failings in coaching and player performance then longer term this actually makes getting to the place we all want the club to be more difficult (Cutting off your nose to spite your face). It may even contribute to the eventual demise of the club. That is something I can simply not do as I would rather have a failing club that could potentially be great one day than no club at all.
We have to accept that only one man's decision counts in reality, and although the large majority disagree with his stance on the coach, he has earned the right by way of investment to make those decisions. No one accept Adam knows what factors are in the mix when finalising those decisions and I suspect the financial burden of the club is now having a major influence on them. Our owner has invested a lot of money, always been open and honest with us, has accepted past mistakes and has always had the clubs best interest at heart. As a fan base we can expect little more when you think of all the factors working against him at present. I think he and therefore the team deserves our backing all things considered.

No I agree with you. All I am saying is I don't think the players are faultless here. Radford IMO is so far out of his depth it's untrue. His after match press conferences are that of a halfwit. I believe HE (radford) thinks things are that simple, which is the crux of the issue.
To respond to your last paragraph though, clearly part of the battle is getting in the right place to score the tries. Hull FC SHOULD be scoring a lot more (use the Derby as an example) but we just don't look like doing it and why, well, that's exactly what we need an answer for.

| For me, the Derby game showed what Radford is about.
If you cannot get a team fired up for a derby game, when we had at least 6 Hull born players, then you really are poor. There was no passion in that game at all, proven by the fact that normally, you see at least 2 or 3 fights, or an all-in battle. There were none.
Gentle knew and understood the passion and how the crowd react to fiery temperaments, the odd high-shot etc. The team then feed on it.
So Radford "works hard"? What about his ability, which is sadly absent.
That makes depressing reading for me and will do nothing to erode fans' skepticism.

| looks like the falling gates are having an impression on Pearson
well when he comes out and defends one of the most ineffective coach I've seen in over 40 years of following FC what does he expect people to do?
I love the club and all I can do to try get him to change his mind about the coaching issues is withdraw my paying support, enough is enough for this supporter and until Radford goes I will be 1 less in the dwindling crowd ,I know this hurts the club overall but something has to change.

I think this is the nub of the matter. Everything else is spin and opinion depending on whether you're AP , the hired help , a glass half full fan or the opposite. We don't know whether AP is making decisions based on finance rather than what he knows is right/better. That not knowing means it's difficult to know what to do as a fan. Do you stop going and hasten the demise of the club or keep it going in the short term but end up making things worse in the longer term as the damage to the club increases incrementally? Ultimately although I moan and complain on here , at the KC and to anyone who'll listen , until I actually get to the ground and the game starts I still want to be there more than I don't - just.

| supporters are upset, disappointed and even angry, but I'd urge them to turn up on Friday and get behind the team.
"We are where we are and there is no point crying out in disappointment because we cannot change what has happened."
Well, that's it for me. I'm not going until Radford has gone. Pearson has basically said he isn't going to do anything and we just have to put up with it. I bloody do not and I will not.
The coach isn't good enough and the chairman doesn't have the RL knowledge to see. We are going downhill at an even bigger pace now.

I challenge KnockersBump on another thread about him commenting that some are happy with the current situation, and who these people were, as I haven't see any.
I've seen the 'happy clappers' comment a few times, and other than about 10 people after the game on Friday (who I think were more clapping Paea personally rather than the team), I haven't seen anyone who's happy about what's happening.
I think it's more a default response to people who don't agree with their viewpoint.

Unfortunately, to some on here you can't be unhappy with things that are happening without utter condemnation of Radford, Pearson, Tony, the fans that argue different.
If you do you're accused of 'blindly accepting' the situation. Which isn't true. I'd watch FC if we were in the NCL with Standee as coach, it's just called being a supporter to me.

This is probably about the most sensible way to go about deciding whether or not to attend, TBH. I've assessed on the same basis, I just happen to have reached a different verdict. Last week brought it home to me, really. I was invited to something on Friday, and instead of the previously reflexive 'Sorry I can't, Hull are at home' response that was the norm, the offer appealed. I'm p***ed off and bored at the match, I'm p***ed off for the rest of the evening, when discussing it over the course of the rest of the week, or when I see pieces like today's from Pearson making excuses and appealing for more patience, and it makes me angry and resentful of the effort and money I've expended when I see the kind of performances typical of this and last season.
So it's a personal thing, but I'm no longer prepared to spend money on something that makes me miserable.

Agree with a lot, but not the last sentence. They [ineed[/i our backing, I can't think of an argument as to why they [ideserve[/i it. They are doing no more than their jobs (and badly), and Pearson in particular is now openly acknowledging fan discontent whilst seemingly refusing to act, actually suggesting we should stop complaining and also appealing for us to keep turning up. As he rightly says, attendances are a reflection of performances, and I'm more inclined to say that that's a fairer barometer of what he and the club currently deserve.

| I actually agree with the title of the thread. It is the players' fault - albeit operating within a culture that has rewarded, and encouraged, mediocrity for sometime.
Several times - Kear, Sharp, Gentle - the Hull FC players have downed tools to get a coach the sack. So I can see why Adam might take a stand, and say no, you're not doing it again, this guy is the coach and it'll be you lot you get the finger pointed at you and not him this time.
The sad thing is, the time to do that was after Huddersfield with Gentle, not now when we have a coach who wasn't up to it as a player or a captain and certainly isn't up to it as a coach. Not only that, but a coach who was part of that culture of drinking club, rewarding mediocrity and getting coaches the sack that we need to be rid of! He's backing completely the wrong horse, but I can see why he's doing it.
Ultimately, doomed. This is going to get much worse before it gets even a little bit better.
