Similar to tax, I strongly suspect there is little need for cap evasion by the rich when there is ample opportunity for cap avoidance. If Rovers could afford to exploit the loopholes more fully... well if others are doing it, then for all that I'm broadly pro-cap, I'd hardly complain.
Mind you, the RFL do often take a 'pragmatic' approach to enforcing their rules. I'm sure hull fans have few qualms about Pearson talking about signing Scott Taylor despite the anti-tampering rule.

It isn't tampering if the player's club give him permission to talk to others.

Given Wigan's reaction, do you think that is likely in this situation? The reason Hull won't get in to trouble is because the rule isn't enforced. The reason some clubs can spend more within the cap, is because they can afford to exploit its elasticity. Hull maybe can't to the same extent as Salford at the moment, but if they the could the cynic in me suspects there'd be less eagerness on here for the RFL to grow a pair.
My point is that 'the problem' with the cap is more about the rule than its enforcement.
In contrast the anti-tampering rule, is clear, unambiguous, widely understood and completely unenforceable.

You can approach OOC players in May I think. Wigan didn't trigger the option in their favour for 2015 until August IIRC.

Remember a few years ago when "paying a player off" was included in the cap. Yet here we are this year with AP stating we are paying over £400k off cap to players being paid off, players costing him more than his divorce.

In reality you can approach anybody any time, so whether you're actually ooc when there is an option in the club's favour is a moot point. Technically you might be right, in which case Hull are safe from the prospect of no punishment whatsoever. Phew.
No club sticks to the letter of that rule, never mind the spirit, I think it is fairly safe to say. It's more of a non-announcement rule, to protect the player from fans (and in the odd case coaches and chairmen) who tend to disgruntlement.

In reality there are loopholes in the cap that mean I doubt that anybody has to resort to stuffing brown envelopes with tenners.

Can't believe Pearson would get rid of a young England international who was one of our best players last year. The guy is crazy if so.

Calm down, it's just a rumour as it stands.

I know it's a rumour, and I highly doubt it's true. But if it is it just goes against everything Pearson says. Frankly my patience is already wearing thin with the guy, this would tip me over the edge.

I will be fuming if this happens, the only reason I could see this happening would be if Westerman has asked to move, but not sure why he would leave Hull for Salford (one of the big sides with more chance of success I could maybe understand).

If he goes go and I would want Taylor and a decent amount of money.

As a fan who really cares how much money we get for him when it's not going to be reinvested? No good can come of selling your best player, regardless of what money you get for him.

The only reason I can think why it potentially would happen (other than to obviously secure taylor) is to try and fast track Abdull and make him our starting 13. Pearson/Radders may be of the opinion they should cash in on Westy while they get the chance because we have something special in Abdull.

I agree, but he wants to go (I am not he does, but just looking at the worst case scenario), then we have don't really have a choice and we might as well get some money back.

If he does want to leave then I agree. There's not much point keeping a player who's unhappy. But he certainly didn't seem unhappy here last year, and this is Salford ffs. They are even less likely than us to win anything next year.

As for investing the money. A coach who knows his from his elbow might be a start.
