Excellent game but no real surprise

Listening to RH on the way home, once Gollum had shut up, PG said Whiting 'didn't play stand off he played as an extra second row'.

PG's tactics were interesting tonight, played Seymour in the middle as an 'old fashioned' scrum half among the pack and it worked.

I now need to slow down on the red wine if I'm to watch the full match on Sky at midnight

Immense performance from Whiting, outstanding from Seymour and inspiring from Russell. What a match it was! As if Wigan never happened....

Well done to you and Carl Spackler for highlighting this - I thought Semour was brilliant tonight - he dictated everything, Richard was still the MOM but Brett was very close.

He is 100% pure rugby league in every ounce of his being.............must have been conceived on top of a bag of muddy shirts under the posts of a rugby pitch. Fabulous performance tonight, well done Rich.

Rich has been a long term soap box for me. He has a footballing brain few can surpass, and to see him in the halves and at LF this season has been a pleasure to see. Sign the lad up (or I'll be very annoyed)

I hate people who bang on about how great he is all the time. It just gets so tedious.

It took me a while to figure out where he was, I actually thought he was playing 13. The tactics were brilliant, it brought the best out of Seymour he had a cracking game.

You would prefer people banging on about how crap a certain player is?
Not tedious for me being excited about a quality player.

I doubt there's been a better 'value for money' player for us in SL era. I don't want that to sound in any way demeaning - his skill set is outstanding and we'd be absolutely mental not to tie him up on a long deal - next week preferably.

Never been any doubt in my mind with respect to Whiting. Always 110%. Right from the moment he first pulled on the FC shirt.

Might not be the fastest player but probably one of the very best. If we had 2 more players around him as bright as he is..... I think you can work out the rest. I'd like to think he'll deserve an FC testimonial, I'd be the first volunteer for that committee.

We had Whiting as an extra second row down one side and Pitts/Aspinwall as an extra down the other. Our scrum must look like a union one!



Seriously, it could be a great tactic, especially when Westerman comes back. Whiting at 6 and Westerman at 13 as two creative edge forwards, with Seymour steering the ship would mean our forward pack would be very difficult to stop. My only concern is that if Seymour is out only pivot, he could get marked out of the game.

On another note, after watching the game back, I didn't quite realise how much involvement Matty Russell had in attack! Seemed to link in really well in plays. A creative full back! Very very eager to get his hands on the ball. I'm glad Phil Clarke attempted to correct himself later in the programme by mentioning the lack of investment in the youth system being the reason we've not had many coming through, because his comment was just ludicrous.
