| I like his attitude to his media duties. You can tell he doesnt altogether care for it but that it is a necessary evil and is much happier coaching. That is how it should be.
Bomber enjoys media duties enough for the pair of em anyways

Eh' I thought he came across well, calm and articulate. He is not making big unrealistic claims and credits the boys were he should.

FFS. Don't you ever stop moaning?
Gentle is quietly dignified in interviews. He comes across as considered and thoughtful. And genuine. Everything Agar failed to convey, but, feck me, you're [istill[/i not happy.

| Quote ="lummy"Too early for me yet, very hard to comment when the scrum half has only played one meaningful game. I got a bit frustratred with the inside ball last night, but it was working! Saints do that a lot, and then a Roby/Lomax type will hit the space. Hope we don't stop offloading the ball alltogether, didnt seem to be much of that last night and we were in the top stats for this last year. Decent start though.'"
I agree with this , A think it's tad to early also but Mckinnon looks like he's going to get a few tries this season , Always looking to support the man . Houghton's started great also.

He really has - he's relentless.
Things that have impressed me so far have been our defensive structure and willingness to turn players in the tackle, and a greater confidence, no player showing this more than Will Sharp IMO. Also more players than just the halves putting kicks/chips in.
Good to see McKinnon seeking to support the ball carrier, we need more of this. Gentle said early on that it was all about having players in motion (ie runners) - didn't see loads of this yesterday.. Kicking's better but plenty of room for improvement. Decent start overall - hope we can stick a few on Salford with a short turnaround.

Think you are spot on with Will Sharp, the kids a good player who seems to have got his confidence back. The only thing that bothers me is the penalty's we seem to give away, penalties usually lead to points for the opposition

| Being lazy and not read the whole thread, but for me, The Gentle touch has to be Will Sharp.
His confidence under Agar was feck all.
During the off season Gentle's touch has seen him a player transformed.

There's no doubting Gentle is having an influence on Sharp, but I also think the fact he now has a centre and fullback who both know what they're doing defensively constantly talking to him is a huge part of it.

| It'll be interesting to see how Sharp reacts after the error that he made on Sunday that gifted London their 3rd try. He appears to be a confidence player, and although he's started the season well and full of enthusiasm it's important that he can keep this up and not let this one mistake get him down. Hopefully Gentle or another coach will be keeping an eye on him.

Which is where we the crowd need to help by not getting straight on his back about it and waiting for his next mistake.

I didn't really see that as a mistake,he was doing his best under heavy traffic and against the odds to get the ball back into the field of play,he very nearly did that. In hindsight he'd have run it over the dead ball line but they might have scored from the next set of six anyway. It shows the confidence he has that he attempted it and had he succeded it would have been a great play and given us chance to work off our own line instead of defending it.

Agree although I think next time he'll take the other option of running it dead. That said though Sharp has not shirked any work this season and after being petrified to look at a high ball let alone take one he seems comfortable in doing so in such a short time under Gentle.
Last season he would have just crumbled as a player but he picked himself up and got on with what he had been doing all game and for me his displays may have been unspectacular but solid which is a improvement beyond anything I imagined.
To be fair the crowd also seem to have appreciated the work he ahs put in in the off season as he would have been lynched if this was last season.
Think this shows just what a difference a quality Coach can do with a player even if they are not world class, Gentle definitley seems to be moulding a team and not just a set of blokes.

I'm not saying it was a howler and I won't castigate him for it, but it was still a mistake. I agree it was good to see him with the confidence to try something like that, but whichever way you cut it, if a player drops the ball it's a mistake (and it was a drop, not a reef).

More of a loose carry I'd say, the clatter Gower gave him and the ball it may as well have been a reef.
His confidence was shattered under Agar and he felt hung out to dry by his coach so it's no surprise to see him playing well under a coach who has a clue what he's doing.

If the ball's knocked out because you've got a loose carry, it's as good as a drop in my book, especially behind your own line. It wasn't pulled out of his grasp, and I agree with Millward, it's up to the ball carrier to hold on to the ball and he didn't.

Totally agree. I don't want it to look like I'm ripping into the kid because I'm not, I think he could be good for us. I just don't see what happened on Sunday as anything other than a mistake, and I don't see how anyone else can view it otherwise, nor do I see the point in making excuses. He had the ball, he let it come loose, they scored a try, it was an error. All players make errors, it's no big deal, just move on and try not to let it happen again.
