Problem is people have got into the habit of asking for Agar's head instead of looking at what is actually going on in my opinion. We are playing to pretty entertaining Rugby League at the moment and the lads are turning up and putting in good performances. I'm not sure entirely what else Agar is suppose to be doing? - Beating Saints without Fitz and Obst was a massive ask and yet we still gave a commendable performance. And we just scored our first 50 points in a game, with wins over some big teams this year. With all this in mind, the RFL have rightly awarded him coach of the month.
The situation is not perfect and improvements need to be made, we have at times suffered mediocrity- but I'm not sure simply kicking out the coach is the answer to that and in my opinion, our Rugby has been anything but mediocre recently. I'm happy to back Rich.

Pretty much agree with that. We have issues at times against the so called weaker opposition and I'm never confident about the coach's motivational skills particularly in those games. Results in the derby over the last few years reinforce this view. What you say is true though regarding the seeming inability of some to grant any kind of credit to the way the quality of play has generally improved. It reminds me of last year when the home form was good the focus turned to the style of play and not the results.
Hopefully the recruitment for next year adds to the number of quality play makers available and gives us a level of depth in this area which we haven't had for a long time.

Warrington away is nothing to be sniffed at - further the draw with Saints and only drew because of a ridiculous decision, wereas we only lost to Wigan by 2 points. We've also had a great performance against Hull KR at home, done the double over Bradford, scored over 50 points in a game - and generally I get the feeling that we are playing some good Rugby League in a tough league.
I wouldn't go as far to say as I am willing to throw unreserved support behind Rich Agar, however I'm a long way from thinking he deserves the sack either - and I do think that his award for coach of the month given recent performances is deserved.

Each to their own. Warrington away is not to be sniffed at but they have blips like everyone else (just ask Salford). Saints were massively understrength and were there for the taking. If we are going to start judging how well we are doing by doing the double over the recently mighty Bradford and a win against Rovers it shows not only the lack of ambition of the board but a lack of ambition from a lot of supporters.
I agree we have played better rugby recently but that better rugby has come against some very poor sides as well. We are not a 5 drives and a kick team like some like to make out but we are seriously lacking in creativity and that is something that has been apparent for 4 years and something the coach should have rectified a long time ago.
The fact still remains we have only beaten one team in the current top 8 this season.

I agree with the last paragraph, however I am concerned that the club may be conducting talks with Richard Agar about another contract at this time. I thought that there was still a year left on his current contact.

Only Leeds, Bradford, Quins and Crusaders haven't scored 50 in game this season and Leeds have scored 48 and 46. Hardly a ringing endorsement for us, especially as we went five years and around 150 games without reaching that milestone.

| People criticising the style of play this year as 5 drives are loons. We are breaking the line and shipping the ball out pretty well. Our pack is very good. Our back line when fit is adequate. My main bones of contention ATM are:
1)Lack of support play in a team with the highest number of tackle busts and clean breaks in the comp. The coach should be sorting this out.
2) lack of long kicking game. We have players who can kick long, namely Westerman, Whiting, Tickle, but even without Long and Obst we fail to use them. The coach should be sorting this out.
3) Our 2 best props aren't getting enough gametime for me.
I really think that even if we only did 1) we'd be better off pointswise and for a RL anorak it's so obvious.

True, and on the face of it that doesn't make good reading and I'm not trying to make excuses for Agar, I've sat through some performances were I have felt like asking for my money back, not least MM, but I think that statement is a little mischievous as well. We drew against Saints, and I think we were well and truly robbed of the victory, and we only lost to Wigan by 2 points, we were also the better team vs Castleford at home but had that memorably shocking performance from Childs - so it's hardly that we have been stuffed by all the big teams. Some people will cry, "But we didn't win, which is all that matters!", but I think it shows we are up there competing, which is not really what a statement like that trys to suggest imo. Also I would suggest that a derby win is often as demanding as a win against a top 8 team - a clinical and great performance that day imo. I think with Obst and Fitz we [imay [/ihave actually picked up a win against Saints last week which could have effectively have put us into 6th - a much different story.
2011 has so far imo, seen some really good performances, some indifferent, some shockingly poor ones, and quite a lot of bad luck - I'm not sure how a different coach would radically change that personally and who knows what the rest of it could bring. Good performance against Salford this week and we could kick on, and there is nothing to suggest that we can't do well in cup - of course we could completly crash and burn - such is sport. Fingers crossed.

| Cannot argue with any of that Mrs B. I agree we have come a long way from being the 5 drives and a kick team but it took us much too long to get that 1 bone of contention sorted. Do we now have to wait another 2-3 seasons for the next problem to be sorted.

How is it mischievous if it is true? Not making it up the facts are there for all to see.
Quote We drew against Saints, and I think we were well and truly robbed of the victory.'"
On the other hand we let them get back into the game after stepping off the gas at half time. When you watch the penalty back Washy is not watching the ball, it goes unpunished 99.9% of the time but was still a penalty.
Quote we only lost to Wigan by 2 points'"
They played nowhere near what they are capable of, they had a slow start to the season and you could say we were fortunate to catch them on an off day. I was there and it was a great day and the players gave everything that day. Yes I felt we were turning the corner with that game but we then put in "that" performance against Wakey the week after.
Quote we were also the better team vs Castleford at home but had that memorably shocking performance from Childs'"
Wouldn't have said we were the better side, Child was awful for both teams. I would also argue Cas are not a BIG team.
Quote so it's hardly that we have been stuffed by all the big teams. Some people will cry, "But we didn't win, which is all that matters!", but I think it shows we are up there competing, which is not really what a statement like that trys to suggest imo.'"
I don't think we are competing with the "big" teams, if we were we would be in or around the top 4 not fighting to cling onto 7th/8th
Quote Also I would suggest that a derby win is often as demanding as a win against a top 8 team - a clinical and great performance that day imo.'"
1 win from 3 suggests more inconsistency, wont argue that it is a big game for the players and it is a 50/50 game the majority of the time, well except the last few years were i think it is more 30-70.
Quote I think with Obst and Fitz we [imay [/ihave actually picked up a win against Saints last week which could have effectively have put us into 6th - a much different story. '"
Injuries happen to all sides and we have been very fortunate with them this year. Saints could argue that with their 1st teamers playing in the game at the KC they would have won with ease. We never had Obst or Fitz and it is a coaches job to bring in players who will fill the gaps when they are created.
Quote 2011 has so far imo, seen some really good performances, some indifferent, some shockingly poor ones, and quite a lot of bad luck '"
Agree apart from the bad luck, I think compared to recent seasons we have been very fortunate with injuries and every team gets bad decisions in games.
Quote I'm not sure how a different coach would radically change that personally and who knows what the rest of it could bring. '"
I would expect a good coach to pick up on the points Mrs B makes a couple of posts back. Agar has had plenty of time to sort these things out but has not managed to. Maybe the signings next year will help, or maybe he will continue to get it wrong. I personally don't want to give him the chance to screw up another season.
Quote Good performance against Salford this week and we could kick on, and there is nothing to suggest that we can't do well in cup - of course we could completly crash and burn - such is sport. Fingers crossed.'"
Could go anyway, there is one thing we can agree on we certainly are not predictable

We were also only 6 from 14 against other top 8 sides last year, and 3 of those came against the 7th and 8th placed teams, and 2 in the opening 2 games of the season. So in fact, we've won 2 games against top 6 opposition in a little under 17 months.
Radio Humberside spoke a lot in the build up last weekend about us competing fine against the top sides and our problem being the likes of Wakefield, but that's simply not true. Whilst giving the better sides a good go, we consistently fall short without truly looking like threatening them most of the time. This is particularly true of the more significant games. As Mrs B often points out, no knockout win against SL opposition since 2008, that's the bottom line.
