That is a very good question. Is it simply the fact he rescued their beloved City or is there more to it ? I don't know.

| I've said all along the council should call his bluff. But I don't think the media will let them, the gravy train has already gathered too much momentum.
What is definite is that Allam first used the pages of the Mail to put forward his proposal and present his glossy pictures to the public. Wonder why they'd do that? Haven't seen them give any other prospective developer such space and exposure for free. Their editorials are always banging the dumbecks for him and scream that only fools would look this gift horse in the mouth. People don't want to consider themselves as fools so they concur. And it is only human nature that if people are told often enough that something is true they start to believe it.
And the Mail and Humberside are repeating the Allam mantra very often indeed. Every day, in fact. But why?

IMO that's all it is. They actually need to take a ste back and actually think what he actually has done. Adam Pearson will be the saviour of City, not anyone else. I do not see millions of pounds flying in for players, and it will never be the case. City = business, and one that can be a success if ran correctly. Allam is simply enojoying the limelight, and who can blame him. But he needs to back up his plans with cold hard facts, and he won't be able to do it.

Would that be the Mail that Hailed Lloyd as 'The Saviour of Sport in the City' I really worry about their inability to look at this situation in more detail. If he is really only putting in £20m of his own money and borrowing the rest against the Stadium and surrounding land, then how will he buy the Stadium and the land in the first place, is he expecting the Council to gift him it? What about covernants on land etc and all the money that Gateway have just spent in West Park to make it just that a park? Still a lot of questions that some folks seen not willing to ask for me!

From what he said (and I could be wrong) isn't his intention to build the village on the whole plot, I'd assumed he would go for ownership of the park/fairground. I think he was saying he'd buy the freehold of the whole lot? His Plan B being spending £160m at Melton. Which would probably have even less value from an external lender's perspective.'"
One can only presume that he will try and blackmail the council to disposing of the entire plot for a vastly reduced price with the threat of the Melton proposal.
Would be interesting to know the planning permission which the current fair ground has?

actually, something else in all of this
what are HCC's rights, as landlords, to notice from Hull City if they want to move out, we're all fairly certain we can't get kicked out, so equally I'd assume we can't just walk away at a whim, and nor can City (unless he wants to buy them out of their remaining lease)

| Plan A
Threaten to move to Melton, get the council to agree to sell you the land at a knock down price. Give it 12 months or so and tell the world you can't raise the finance to build the sports village so you need to get agreement to sell off the land to a developer so you can invest in the KC. Council over a barrel so agree to the necessary planning requirements. Kerching
Plan B
Threaten to move to Melton, the council call your bluff, you say that the football club is not viable in it's current stadium and bring a media hailstorm down on the council who eventually capitulate and agree to sell you the land at a knock down price. Give it 12 months or so and tell the world you can't raise the finance to build the sports village so you need to get agreement to sell off the land to a developer so you can invest in the KC. Council over a barrel so agree to the necessary planning requirements. Kerching
I don't think there is a plan C

I hope plan C is the council telling him to do one to Melton and sticking to it. He's bluffed the council now its time to call his bluff.

| I spoke yesterday evening to a person (engaged to a VERY close friend) obviously i cant say male or female to protect them.... whom works within the Allam regime who said point blank there is one mission and only one mission here... to merge the two rugby clubs asap and make it a super club to take on the world both in playing staff, fan base and finances, he has said he wants it "like the wigan of the past"
aparently he is of the mind that by merging the new super club will have a fan base of over 20K per match because the RL fans of hull will eventually see sense and go and support it en masse! and then the cash flows!!!!
This then in turn bankrolls everything else....
I have only lived in Hull for a short while but those few years have tought me that he misunderestimates the loyalty of FC and KR fans to a new super club should he try to do this...

| I think I must be missing something here but I don't really see the downside to the city as a whole. I accept there may be concerns for us as FC fans and we need to do our utmost to ensure security of tenure etc but taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture (and any other cliche you care to throw in!) where's the problem.
Walton street car park is a mess and anything that can be done to redevelop it must be a positive. The council have had ample time to do something with the site and have chosen not to do so, why not let someone else have a go. The fair, whilst traditional sucks huge amounts of money out of the local economy, you just need to look at the books of traders in the city to see a drop in income for 2 or 3 weeks around the fair to see the impact it has. I appreciate that the council must make a fair bit in rent but presumably its worthwhile for the showmen to come and given that most of them are not local this is effectively taking money out of the city. As regards the market this could just be either shut down or relocated.
Whatever Mr Allam is he is not stupid so I think we have to accept that either his sports village will work, in which case great, or it is a cover for some sort of residential or commercial development as has been suggested elsewhere on here. If this happens surely its better than the bombsite we have at the moment and either way it will give a much needed boost to the local construction industry.
Call me naive but I actually think he's genuine and his motives are to leave a legacy behind him (a modern day Mr Ferens if you like.)If he can do this and make a few quid at the same time good luck to him!

I was talking about the content.
let's set your penchant for fibbing aside and look at it this way.
would Allem discuss a potentially volatile idea with an employee before he's even secured a tacet agreement for an initial linchpin in his project.
next you'll be telling us he's approached Richard Branson to use an underground hangar at the KC to launch his Virgin Space ship, with the pitch sliding out to allow it to take off.

Never knew Branson was involved in this venture is he????
However like all large businesses and high profile bussiness men they have people who work around them and their team they bounce ideas etc off.. or do you think he only has his own family working for him ???
ask your sponsor friends they will explain ...

there is so far to go on this it is untrue, bear in mind nobody who has contacted the council with F.O.I requests has had a reply as yet, or even an acknowledgement of their request (well, the 12 or so people I know who have submitted them).
It would have to go to the S.O.S for the Environment, before that it would have to go to the Local Government ombudsman, no need to panic, just time to get organised.

I disagree about Walton st, its a car park most of the year and as such its serves the purpose. The fair is a part of our heritage and whilst I agree about it taking a lot out of the city, perhaps Mr Allams scheme will do a similar thing only 52 weeks a year. Maybe the fair would continue with Mr Allam setting the prices instead of the council.
If it is developed where do cars park on matchdays, the local streets will be chocker.
Mr Allam will prove to be less then any Ferens, Wilberforce, Reckitts or Pearson he is another Lloyd who takes his chances. Those people GAVE freely to the city, this one wants to TAKE, including West Park. If he wants to add a legacy to the city perhaps clearing away some of the slum area's lacking investment, but is there any money in that ?
