One KFC a fortnight isn't going to impact on long term health or ability to train. Smoking does both of those things. It's a short enough career as it is without doing something virtually guaranteed to reduce it further.

In any case I was responding to the idea that from the perspective of the players a decision to have a KFC was of the same order as a decision to smoke.

It shows aswel when the model professionals in sport usually have the longest careers, Lockyer, Fitzgibbon, etc.

I don't know anything about it other than what I've read on here. They might not have had a KFC at all, for all I know. All I'm saying is that, if they did, there are far more appropriate meals for professional athletes to be having after a game.

That said, I would agree whole heartedly that it's not quite on a par with cigarettes in terms of its ability to damage a person's health.

tbh I tried to figure out just how bad or good it was and got lost in the data.

It's probably fine just so long as it's not eaten in excess and balanced with the rest of their diets. I'm assuming their diets are pretty closely controlled and the management team and players know what should and what shouldn't be eaten, within reason.

I'm sure you're right, and personally I've never had one of their buckets of assorted deep fried chicken bits on the assumption that it's below even my fairly flexible nutritional standards. I do get the impression that RL as a whole is not quite up to the standards of professionalism seen in other sports though.

there are two issues here, we we should separate.

Having a KFC may not be "bad" for them, but the impression given when you see a full professional squad being taken to KFC by the team bus is not a positive one.

well said mate, same garbage from the same people, there is no smoking at training full stop and as far as i know there is only 4 in the whole squad that do smoke so hardly going to be an influence is it!!
