Gutted about this. Whiting has been one of our top performers all season, and I was really hoping that Calderwood would go on to the end of the season in good form and earn a new contract. Not happy.

Goddam it, poor whiting espcially for me. Lets just hope the arm injury does'nt throw up any long lasting effects. Worse case scenario would be a Micheal Eager situation where the arm kept breaking. So sorry for Calders as well.

Berro & Horne for me is the best outcome here.

Absolutely gutted for Whiting, been one of our most consistent players. I had a similar problem when i was playing and after it was plated and pinned it was very prone to breaking especially in the tackle. After the 5th break the plate was removed and touch wood it was fine after that.
Lets hope removing the plate and letting it heal fully will be the last we hear of the break.

Yeah mate, it's always going to be a bit 'iffy' , not just physically but psychologically for Rich. He will need to get his head around this when he begins playing again, but he seems strong in that department. Lets just hope for him.

This new news he didnt take so well, it is heart wrenching for him it really is.
he is going to see a specialist tomorrow, same guy who dealt with a few high profile breaks for their op on it!
made even worse as he had been pre advised he was invited to the England train on squads too by Steve Mac so really gutted for the lad

i would definately like to see Washbrook at 13 for the rest of the season, i thought he had a great game on thursday and always rated him as our LF

reece lyne should get some games too

i'd go for, tansey FB, lyne/briscoe wing, yeaman/hall centre and horne/berro in the halves

if jack briscoe can get a game or two before the playoffs then that would be good if tansey is needed at 7

I suppose that is what squads are there for to cover such eventualities huh , however I think we all feel a special afinity to Rich given his past injuries which makes it worse

Lets not forget on this thread the black cloud that must be Mark Calderwoods state of mind today as well, that poor lad has one of the best club attitudes i have ever seen and he is looking down the barrel of his career being over for now!!

Truly gutted for both. I feared the worst when I saw Calders pull up after that kick, but the Whiting news is a bolt from the blue. Will our luck ever change for the better?

I think with the players we now have out, we've little to no chance of making a dent in the play offs. Maybe we should use the last few games to play some of the youngsters and see what they're made of - it won't help us much this year but it might be invaluable next.

Calderwood we have had missing for best part of the season anyway so we didnt really vouch for him in team selection anyway.
Whiting is our only true long term injury now from the whole squad.
Omeley, Long and Fitz will all come back into the reconning soon.

Wigan we will struggle with but the following two games are there to win!!! with or without those mentioned.
Then Warrington and Leeds will be thinking of Wembley so not all doom and gloom just yet ..

Calderwoods injury wouldn't have been that much of a problem to cover as we've covered his position admirably for most of this season. But Whiting's injury will hit us hard .

Thats what squads are for I guess!! there are younger lads chamffing at the bit to play

Damage limitation on Friday now (if it wasn't already). If we can get Ogre, Fitz and Long back and playing well I'm still hopefull we can make an impression in the play-offs but in the short term we are really struggling, especially if Tickle and Moa pick up bans.

Feel so,so sorry for Rich. He has been outstanding this season and would have fully deserved a place in the train-on squad.

Thats the way Steve Mac saw it too, the ideal and best bench utility player for England on current form!

Think Moa and Tickle will get beech slapped for a minute and told to get their cheque books out , this Wigan match may see a new face or two
