While that did play a massive part i also thought our kicking game was shocking and didn't build any pressure through it. Pretty much every kick in the second half was a bomb to Brett Hodgson regardless of field position, we should have just been putting it on the floor behind Lolesi who is a 2nd rower playing on the wing instead of bombs to the safest fullback in the league.

Also the whole Tickle moving to the left when Hame comes on is a crazy tactic that messes up our entire structure.

Oh I agree we didn't help ourselves either but any team is going to struggle on the back of a penalty count like that.

Yeah i just thought a lot of our penalties came off of the back of a poor kick and chase as we were slowing the PTB down too much when we didn't have the right too.

both teams were guilty of giving too many penalties away today most of them deserved but i was surprised by how many times he let hull lie on in the first half whilst penalising us for it,i think hull were penalised 4 times in the 2nd half for ball stripping which led to your downfall imo

If the finger is pointed at anyone it has to be Long, He is the halfback and his decision making and his kicking game especially was terrible at a pivotal point in the game, had it even been up to even an average standard we could have stopped Hudds getting the momentum they did.

I've never understood the logic behind that. I haven't seen anything to suggest that Lauaki cannot play down the left or is significantly more effective on the right. The only slight benefit I can see is that his left to right passing is stronger than right to left, making him more effective at giving service to those outside him when he's down the right, but Tickle's the same, so there's no real gain there. All it means is that our right channel defence goes to sh[size=100i[/sizet and our left channel attack suffers similarly. We go from sending Manu at the half/centre, putting Yeaman away, to Tickle running unders lines or, more often, getting it on a drop-off, working back inside towards the forwards. When that's happening on the right, with him sometimes holding his line and having the option of giving the pass wide, it's fine, but that isn't going to happen down the left.

Totally agree. Manu was causing all kinds of problems down that channel, hence Kevin Brown giving away a few penalties. It was working really well for us and Hame should have just played the exact same role.
