It was a fantastic night and a truly great comeback but are the club going a bit over the top? It was only a league match which got us nothing more than two points and if we aspire to be a top side shouldn't we be looking to beat Saints when we are at home?

So the club should look to have the same old merchandising each year and ignore the thousands fans who are obviously prepared to pay good money for these products?

I think the club should be praised for this personally.

Not at all. If there is a demand for the products from the fans then the club would be mad not to meet that demand.

I can certainly see the merit of selling the DVD but am less sure about the shirt. I remember when the club used to sell a DVD (in fact a VHS video) of all home matches.

The point I was making is that the result proves nothing except that we were the better team on the night and we got no more points for it than we will (hopefully) get for beating Salford.

the club should,and will explore all ways of improving the financial side of things,and this in their eyes,constitutes good financial sense.the t-shirts are not my cup of tea,but my lad wants the dvd ,so there is another £12-99 to the club!!

The thing with all of this is that the club are looking to cash in which can only be good for the club as a whole. Despite over 13000 being there some fans would not have managed to go for one reason or another. If by selling the DVD they get a opportunity to see what was a totally memorable match of rugby league then that for me is excellent.
I certainly know of one family who attend virtually all games but were on holiday abroad last week and will be kicking themselves for missing the game. By selling the DVD they will at least be able to see what they have missed and marvel at what was an outstanding game of rugby.
As for the T shirts I personally will not be buying one, but given how many T shirts Lee and the team have shifted over the past 24 months it clearly indicates that there is a market out there for them. If they are still on the shelves 6 months from now and being flogged off for a fiver then and only then can we have a dig at the club. Until that time I think we should praise the club for having the balls to get these things on the shelves. This for me is also the benefit of ISC as a supplier as they can turn these things out at very short notice unlike Umbro, Adidas, Nike etc who really would give a hoot about a few hundred rugby t shirts.

Yes, it's only two points but it's better than losing...

...and the board =#0000FFdo aspire to create a top side and this victory might well be a sign that the team are moving towards fulfilling some of those aspirations. The marketing department's ability to spot an opportunity and agility to shift stock to improve the bottom line also helps to further fund those aspirations.

Let's hope so. The next few matches are eminently winnable and the mark of a top side is to be consistently able to put away the likes of Salford as well as achieving the occasional memorable victory like last Friday.

Don't get me wrong, I understand your sentiment and agree that we need to be winning games against the top clubs if we want to be amongst them - it's just that our last couple of seasons (perhaps decades) mean that we should be righty proud of the team for that win and the manner in which it was achieved.

btw, I was unable to get to the game and have only seen Boots n all (and Boots n all the tries) and the FCTV highlights... but I just watched the highlights on the SL site which show the lead up to all the tries and not just the scoring plays. We made some great ground up the middle for the first four or five plays (sounds like 5 drives and a kick to me

) followed by the one or two plays leading to the tries. I thought we looked the real deal going forward from those highlights.

I can see the point of the DVD, or at least the DVD of the second half. I don't like the idea of releasing a commemorative T-shirt though. Such things should be reserved for cup finals and the like, not merely completing a double over a team in a roughly similar league position to us.

I don't have an issue with it as such. Anything that brings revenue into the club has to be a good thing. I guess it just makes me feel a little uncomfortable about our standing as a club - can you imagine Saints producing a commemorative T-shirt for having done the double over Hull (or anyone)?

I think it's a w@nk idea but if people are stupid enough to buy one then why not?
