Let him go then. Plenty of coaches out there and he has done nothing yet to warrant a new contract.

| One of the main considerations is who a realistic alternative would be. Coaching seems to be one area where we scrimp, so would we really be in the market for a top class Aussie coach? Probably not. Would Moore be better? No idea. McNamara? Absolutely not.

| Agar will not be coach next year, he'll move upstairs and Moore will take over.
He (Moore) stated he came over to be a head coach, i doubt he'll wait at his age. This has been obvious since Moore was announced.

| Anything less than top 6/8 with this team with at least one good performance in the play-off's should yield the sack for Agar but as stated we often go for the cheap option when it comes to appointing head coaches so I wouldn't get my hopes up of a 'top class aussie' being signed. More a run of the mill assistant coach from the NRL or something.

| Quote ="wolfie"just sat thinking about this season and the fact agar is out of contract at the end of the season,id say if he is offered a new contract it would have to be sorted sooner rather then later, off season was very good, signings very good, players released very good,we have had many debates about him been coach and that some would rather have a bigger name coach, its very early on and there is a long way to go but what would peoples thoughts be if we finished in the playoffs and got to a final or even won one, would people be happy for him to get a new contract or would they still feel we need a bigger name in charge?this is just to see what peoples thoughts are, its not to get into a slagging match about rich, also to remind people ive said all along if he was proved not be upto the job then he should go,but i just have a sneaky feeling we are heading for big things with this team.'"
in all honesty i don't know how you could not renew a coaches contract if he has just won a trophy or got us to a final. to get there you need to do something right, we all know how injuries can affect the team, so with a fully fit squad we should be able to see what rich is actually like as a coach. 10 rounds in is way too early and as previous posters have said we really don't know who's calling the shots at the min, in could be moore, not to mention how many times we here about long and fitz's input into tactics.

| Im not a fan of Agar and im still to be convinced that he is the right man for the job but to expect him to win a trophy with the squad he has is unfair in my opinion I still think we are well behind some of the other squads, if we finish around the top six mark it will be an ok season and would consider giving Agar a short extension.

| =#FF4080Wolfie/Jake - This is getting boring now, cut it out!
Need to wait until at least mid season before looking at how well he is doing, would have other irons in fire too just in case. Agar needs at least a top 6 finish or I would get rid.

It's a valid question, at which point do we thing about renewing or not. If it's a no then plans have to be made to look for someone else. Wolfie was not saying we should renew his deal but merely asking the question.

| Quote ="Jake the Peg"If we're in the top 6 by July/August and consistently playing well I'd give him a 12 month extension. I don't think the squad we have is good enough to win anything unless we have a big dollop of luck, but should be better that 7th or 8th. Would be unfair even on agar to suggest he has to win something to survive, however as has already been said, he also has a massive amount to do to prove himself.
Anything more than 12 months, no matter how well we do, would be a poor decision IMO.
I'd still rather see a proven performer in the job, which would mean an aussie. I hope it's the last time the club ever appoint someone unproven into the head coach position'"
I concur.
We need continued high performance - getting to finals or semi-finals at least. Offer him an extension and when/if it becomes clear that he has the credentials to be a "great" then give him a longer-term offer.

If that is how you see it then fine.
Interesting how wolfie hasn't started a similar thread about OOC players.

| For me after the last 2 seasons im wanting a top 6 finish, a challenge cup final appearance (if not win to stop that damn rovers song!"!) and 2 derby wins if he achieves this and he remains CHEAP and their is no unrest in camp then I would give him a new contract! otherwise dump him and lets see if uncle Dennis can persuade dezzy over! Too early yet to say how this seasons gunna pan out

| The original post is a bit confusing.
Wolfie, you've said offering a new contract would need to be sooner rather than later, and then you've gone on to say would fans be happy if he was given a new contract if we won something/got to a final/play-offs, etc. They can't both happen. If the contract was given sooner rather than later, we wouldn't know if we'd won something/got to a final/play-offs etc. This is probably why the question isn't getting answered in the way you intended, because it can't.
I think he's in a similar position that Noble was put in. He's not met targets over his contract and now it's his final year there are no room for excuses. This is his squad that he put together and if he fails to meet the targets then he won't be offered a new deal. For him to be offered a new deal early, I reckon we'll need to be flying high in the league (somewhere in the top 4) with signs of staying there (i.e. no slump in form) around June time. If we aren't, then he'll have to sweat on a contract based on end of season results. I don't think we need to worry about another club poaching him (he's has no decent results at SL), so we can wait.
