Rovers being in the hole that they are is enough to crow about, for some time to come!

No such thing as a meaningless match, just like there's no such thing as a meaningless training session, team bonding session, community event, etc. No matter what the reason, when they're representing a professional organisation they should be just that, professional. This is what seperates the champion players/teams from the rest, and would probably go a long way towards explaining our 'performances' over the past couple of years.

If friendlies were a complete waste of time then clubs wouldn't play them. The revenue generated by a typical friendly isn't really that significant.

Having a couple of full games ahead of the season start does help to knit the pre-season work together and get some of the cobwebs blown out before the serious stuff starts. As long as it's kept to just one or two games the benefits are worthwhile.

Of course, playing too many friendlies adds nothing to preparation for the season and significantly increases the risk of injuries - as we've found out in the past. No club with any sense would have an extensive programme of friendlies nowadays...

Nope, I think 5 years + at about £100k a season is enough support, I'll be walking in Derbyshire instead, hope you enjoy the game though.

And more generally, attendance at a friendly testimonial game is all about personal choice rather than fans giving something back because they ought to. Horne has been well paid over the years and the fans have paid his wages. I'll be there because I want to be, not because I feel I ought to be.

Indeed you will, hopefully more than last season, but it depends where I end up working, London looks likely which will limit my opportunities, but I'll make as many as I can, home and away.
