For what it's worth i think Kingy has been a great servant and unfortunately his body has been punished far too mutch because of the way that he plays. He hasnt helped the longevity of his career by his off field behavior but i dont want to bring that up again. I think he should have played more international games in his younger days but he has probably had 2 seasons too many in the top fight. Hope his career isnt over as feared with this injury but im not sure his body could hack another year or two in SL anyway.

Never been his biggest fan but must admit to feeling sorry for the guy at the end last night. He was applauding the fans and no-one seemed to be reciprocating. After the years he's put in thought he'd have got a better send off.

Favourite King memory was when the club visite the hospital and Paul saw a girl from his school days

Kingy seems like yesterday when I was with you Dad at the Boulevard watching your first turn out, a lot of water has flown past Sammys point since then. He could maybe have achieved more, he acheived helping us into SL, he helped to keep us there when things got rough in 99. He managed a Challenge cup winners medal, runners up medal and SL play off runners up medal. Not as much as some but more then a lot more, remember upto this year Lee Bries had got zilch. His fear of flying and confined spaces has been well documented, suffice to say the detractors had a field day with that.

Maybe the off field stories are true, most are wildy exagerated of that I have no doubt. He has always given effort on the pitch and he has a rapport with the fans, he is one of them and one that has not forgotten where he came from. He will be no doubt sat with us in future years, like so many others from the past held in esteem for deeds acheived, not mis deeds. Too many of our fans did not see Kingy back in his youth ripping defences apart and giving us hope for the future.


Kingy will join the elite group of greats simply because he was Kingy, a fans favourite. A human being who wore his heart on his sleeve and never wanted to leave his only PRO club, perhaps this is not quite the end of the Paul King show quite yet
