As for the Agar thing, I think its hugely unprofessional to be doing that, I can see the argument that it's just helping out a friend, but it just looks so bad and is an indicator of the lack of respect and matey attitude the players have towards him. In itself it's not a reason for Agar to get fired, but as a signal of how he's running things and how the playing staff regard him then it definately is.

Sorry I am not going with that, I could tell you stories about the great legend Arthur bunting and his relationships with the lads, Knocker, Sterlo etc which make this thread a joke, honestly we are all very much aware of Agars short comings and we finally all agree he needs replacing but this imo is pathetic.

Considering I was stood in the bar next to this incident I can say with good authority that all of the above is bullox. It was indeed a Rovers fan and his actions deserved a lot more than the few decent digs JR gave back in self defence !!!

Why do so many people struggle to realise that RL is now a professional sport and the way things were done back in the day is no longer acceptable?

But the sport has moved on so far since the 1980s, I'm not for a moment comparing Bunting to Agar but what could make you successful then would not work now because the elite teams are taking everything so much more seriously in terms of professionalism and meticulous approach to preparation. On top of this, Bunting clearly had the respect of the players anyway from what I've read and been told (he was before my time), Agar doesn't have this so the least he should be doing is putting a respectful distance between himself and the players.

I disagree Kosh, some of the greatest players came from that era, the mentality of the players was possibly more professional, the players were generally semi-pro, however very few drank before games etc, their attitude and dedication and professionalism was greater than a lot of what is displayed today, they had fun yes but there was a time and a place for it.Many xmas days in our house was alchohol free due to the boxing day match.

So which part is bollox then? Apart from the bit about him being an FC fan which I have already accepted i was wrong about? The incident was clearly not Rule's fault but IMO as CEO of our club it's still pretty unprofessional of him to have retaliated. I'm not expecting him to be a saint but it looks very bad.

I'm not challenging the qualities or the achievements of the players from that era, but I do doubt that they were more professional than [imost[/i modern SL players. The fact that they may have been more professional than our shower says more about our current crop of underachievers and the loser culture at our club than it does about previous stars TBH.

Rovers fan went over to him and to cut a long story short, the conversation changed in seconds from the kid trying to be all matey, matey and dignified in defeat to him becoming abusive. JR offered no-one outside but when the kid lashed out and hit him in the face, JR gave him a few back. I dont think JR can be called unprofessional for acting in self defence, Can you ?

Well it depends, self defence is one thing but 'giving a few back' gives the impression that it was more than self defence. I'm not saying the guy who started it didn't deserve it and I'm not condemning Rule for doing it, but yes I would say it could be seen as unprofessional.

Because if it was as easy to predict 6 numbers every Saturday and Wednesday night as it was to see how a trip down Princes Av, after a derby game for our CEO would end up, then we would all be loaded.
