Why wouldn't sticking in a player with zero confidence, no respect from his team-mates and no respect from the opposition (who know his weaknesses fairly well, having seen them at close hand for the last few years) be a good idea? A player who plays at half, meaning we'd have to switch our halves and play a limited impact hooker from the start. And then, for good measure, stick him at fullback when he's never shown any aptitude for the position. Are you seriously suggesting that Agar's train of thought was sound?
Quote ="fat ash"lets not make scapegoats again thorman was no worse than anyone else on the field , apart from calderwood'"
He was terrible again. Even discounting his blunders in dealing with kicks, he was awful in defence (you have to wonder why someone would be playing rugby when they look so afraid of contact, particularly when tackling), put in a few horrible kicks, frequently took the wrong option (again, he didn't make a decision with the ball, his mind was made up before he ever received it, which is why he does things like give the ball to Burnett on a drop-off when the defender (Kirmond, I think) has already jumped the line inside, instead of going himself through the massive gap) and provided nothing with his running game. The one break he did make after good work from Raynor was painful to watch in its lack of commitment and belief (not to mention speed).

| First on Huddersfield, would we want us to play like that? Very well drilled and have application I will grant you, but they're a bit boring aren't they?
Secondly on the lads. We played very well in the 1st half, and because of some atrocious decisions by the so called referee, our heads went down which is quite understandable considering our level of confidence.
Don't get me wrong I am far from happy with our season, it has been quite disastrous. But booing the players gets us nowhere. There is effort there is has to be said. Anyone who saw Josh Cordoba walk around the pitch when he was substituted, could never argue against that, he was absolutely knackered.
On Richard Agar I will say this, he deserves his chance with his own team, just as I thought with Peter Sharp. But if this form carries on into next season, he has to be shown the door.
End of after pub rant

| Quote ="fat ash"in my opinion that it is the players (well certain ones) that are to blame for our poor performances . Last week we showed comitment , and the ability to throw the ball about and showed interest .
tonight we looked awful and any desire to win the game seemed to , at least in the second half to be non existent .
we have shown we can do it , but only in games the playes can lift themselves for , derbys are easy to lift for , but i always said it would be this week that showed if we have turned a corner . we havent cause the same lack of passion showed through tonight .
the Anti Agar crew should take a look at the past 3 years , we blamed kear , we blamed sharpe , now we blame agar , whats the one thing that has remained constant (ish) ? the playing staff'" spot on good post

They are second in the league FFS.
Secondly on the lads. We played very well in the 1st half, and because of some atrocious decisions by the so called referee, our heads went down which is quite understandable considering our level of confidence.
How many times is the 'low confidence' excuse going to be wheeled out without looking at the root cause of this?
On Richard Agar I will say this, he deserves his chance with his own team
Given the evidence of his tenure in charge thus far, what are you basing that on? '"

| It both the coaches and the players faults.
The players dont put the effort in, dont want to play as a team and let their heads go down as soon as they go behind in a game.
The coach should be drilling in the most basic tatics into the team, like defence formation and backing up the player with the ball. Look at Hudds compared to last season, they all want to work for each other, back each other up and would put their body on the line for a team mate, its blatently obvious that Brown has drilled this mentality into them.
Things will improve next season, as Agar has made some great signings, what we've seen of Tansey proves Agar knows what is needed, but will need to improve his own coaching skills, as the basic skill of the players he's brought in wont carry him forever.

I agree, we should support our team and get behind them. We as fans have been just as poor as the players on the field, we are regarded as some of the best fans in the game but are underperforming too. I know its hard to get behind the team, especially when they put so little effort in but booing and shouting Agar out is not going to make things better, it is going to make things worse.

Yer ok mate, you might be happy to 'get behind the lads' and applaud the dross being served up by our coaching staff but other people are a bit more enlightened than that.
Nobody enjoys booing their own team or shouting for the coach to be sacked but it is borne out of wanting the team to be successful, something that it is blatantly obvious isn't going to happen under the current regime.

In answer to Uncle Junior, as the quote function doesn't seem to work.
1. I was commenting on their style of play, not something I'd want to see Hull FC emulate, 2nd in the league of not!
2. Confidence is a very important thing in sport. Teams get into a habit of winning, they also get into a habit of loosing, we are in the latter unfortunately.
3. We have seen our last 2 coaches sacked because they have allegedly 'lost the dressing room'? The coaches have changed but has anything else really? We have been promised by Mr Agar that he will be having a good clear out. I'm prepared to see if this comes to fruition. The close season will be interesting in this regard.
Just as an after thought, who is really out there to replace him??

Fair enough, but I hardly think we are in a position to be getting snobbish about style of play when we are performing so poorly in the league.
2. Confidence is a very important thing in sport. Teams get into a habit of winning, they also get into a habit of loosing, we are in the latter unfortunately.
We are in a habit of losing because of our coach.

John Kear won us the challenge cup and our first playoff game. Peter Sharp took us to a grand final and 4th in the league the year after. What's changed is we've got far worse.
Just as an after thought, who is really out there to replace him??
This argument really winds me up, most people are available for the right price. Even aside from that, I'd take Noble in a second (style of play not the best i agree but he's a proven winner). '"

Oh ok I won't then.
You don't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed but I will try and provide a bit of an insight for you. For some people (i.e. yourself), rugby is a basic thing where you turn up, drink beer, grunt a lot, sing songs and 'get behind the lads' whatever happens.
Others (i.e. me), have more analytical minds and through a desire to learn, have developed a deeper understanding of the workings of the game. Because of this we are able to understand what it takes to formulate a winning side, and, as in this case, be able to spot when things are going disastrously wrong. When you think like that it's quite hard to blindly cheer on the lads and just hope things get better, therefore you end up seeking ways (however futile) to try and improve the situation (in this case by seeking the removal of the coach). While this can be uncomfortable in the short-term, it is for the long-term good of the club.
I guess it's just about what you want out of the game

I am not being snobbish about their style of play. Huddersfield have done very well this season there is no doubt, but I still wouldn't want my team to play like that.
Although John Kear and Peter Sharp had some success, the accusation of loosing the dressing room was aimed at both coaches before they where sacked. I personally liked Peter Sharp very much, and I'm sure he would have liked the leeway Richard Agar has had this season. The club have decided to go down this road, and as I posted earlier I am prepared to give him a fair shot.

I agree that in principle I think it's great that the board have decided to give someone more time than they gave Kear and Sharp. I just find it frustrating that it happens to be Agar because nothing I see from him inspires any hope in me. Believe me though, if he clings on until next season and proves me wrong I'l be on here wolfing down humble pie and enjoying every mouthful!
