Actually yes punching is a red card. If they had been toe to toe I could see your point but Bailey was basically on all fours with no way of protecting himself while Radford threw several punches at him. I wish people would stop comparing it to other incidents that are fights rather than someone taking a pasting who isn't even looking. The Wellens one was slightly different but I agree it should have been at least a sinbin. Radford knows what he did was stupid which is why he has apologised to his team mates.

So does it say in the rule 'punching a defencless person is a red card' ?

If so what about when players are being held back and another player keeps throwing?

McGoldrick had no way of defending himself, Wellens banged 2 forearms in to him, one rule for one!!! its the inconsistency that really miffs me!!!

All this Radders hitting a man when he's down makes me laugh. If you watch it again Radders is actually on the ground when he throws the 1st punch that he misses. It just happens that Radders is then quicker to his feet than Bailey for the following punches.

Radford had little way of protecting himself whilst Bailey was elbowing him in the head. If Radford deserved red, so did Bailey. That's before we mention the attempted head butt on Long.

Wellos was worse imo. 2 clear forearms across the mush.



Unless you look at the incidents and the findings from the MRP, then you'll realise, they're deserving of no more than a £300 fine.

And watched it back a dozen times last night, how many times did radders actually make any proper contact with the hits??? Tbh not many, bailey made far more contact with elbow and considering smiths position when he threw the head butt just shows he bottled it..
Even R.paul said not a red card..

I'm not even sure if Radders cut Bailey or whether it was the initial contact with Fitz.

Just watched it on that popular video site, Radford only connected with one swing and even that didn't connect flush, it just skimmed him.
Also watching it back i think it was the last "elbow" that did it as Radford was moving away Bailey's elbow follows him and connects on the top of his cheekbone.
One question still remains - Why did Bailey cower into the fetal position? Then squirm out under Buderus? Surely the most feared man in SL would of got up straight and gone toe to toe?

Bailey had a look up and once he realised enough people had hold of Radford he went charging around like he was trying to get to him. I remember him going one on one with Sculthorpe and Scully cracked him and Bailey did nothing. He's a gutlass wonder.

I think it's the fact that fighting/punching incidents rarely result in a red card. Whether that's right or wrong is debatable but as ever it's the sheer lack of consistency that is the issue. Likewise attempted/successful head butts are often red carded. But Smith chose not to. Hull has every right to be aggrieved about the way the incident was handled.

Having seen the attempted headbutt he should have seen Red I agree. Previous to that Radford definately deserved a red and Bailey didn't. Taking the incident in isolation it looks like Bailey is fighting to get up and Radford just attacks him on the floor. I think the fact it's bailey is clouding one or two opinions.

Presumably we willl hear no more about it from Rhinos fans once Mr Mason arrives next season? lol

I disagree with you I think Bailey used the opportunity to repeatedly elbow Radford while trying to get up. In any case Ian Smith was wrong not to send Bailey off for an intended head butt in the same way he should have yellow carded a Leeds defender for blatantly impeding Briscoe one yard from the Leeds line (in the same way he yellow carded Tickle 2 weeks previous). As for Radford deserving a red card that would be fine if provided similar incidents were treated in the same way. They are generally not treated with a red card therefore this should not have been one either. The issue is about inconsistent refereeing which is the biggest blight on the game and nothing whatsoever to do with Bailey as a player or person.
