I agree with the sentiments for Whiting, but not Turner. He tried to keep the line the best he could, but ultimately it's the wingers role to stay on his wing, not the centre's. He ran in the ball hard and looked for work where he could.

Sorry, really don't agree. He came far too far inside at times, even with Whiting 10 yards from the touchline they were still a further 10-15 apart. Also, a few times in the first half he came up quickly to his opposite number, and when the pass didn't come he just stayed in no man's land and watched Saints play leaving a broken/staggered line in his wake.
Agree he did ok with the ball though.

It was nice little step to change direction that got him in for our second try.

| Thought Houghton lifted the pace after the first try of the second half. A few quick scoots got us on the front foot and allowed Moa and O'Meley to get a roll on. took his try well.

Will be good to see what he is like at centre with a 'true' winger beside him.

| Best game in an FC shirt for me. Taking the line on really got us on the front foot and defensively didnt take a backward step. Top 40/20 too.

| Houghtons form since Berro's injury has been nothing short of superb.
Future international without a shadow of a doubt.

| The kid probably has had the best apprenticeship a young hooker could ever have (under Swain then Berrigan). I said a year ago that he could end up being a top class hooker. Before tonight he has always looked the real deal running out of dummy half, but I thought his passing options and decisiveness sometimes let him down. His defence has always been good IMO.
Tonight he had one of those nights when evrything he has learned seem to come together and he was outstanding. I really do hope that tonight was the making of his career as a top class hooker, he certainly has the ability......well done Danny 10/10

Get Hodgson back after his "loan" period with Rovers and we're set at hooker.

| Houghton was superb tonight, made all the right options and kicked very well. Imo the hooking role is his to lose now.

Yep, by far. I'm not sure if it was because of him having to play a full game or whether it's just improvement on his part, but his decision making was so much better than it was earlier in the season that it's hard to believe it's the same player. Defensively he was much improved on his earlier showings too, standing in the tackle more rather than shooting in too early at the ankles. It wasn't often that he got caught underneath and, even if it meant being knocked back a few yards, he was staying upright longer and waiting for help to allow them to work the ball carrier.

I'm pretty sure Tansey got both.

| I've been on the fence about him but he's really stepped up to the plate in Berro's absence and has made me eat my words. Happy to be proven wrong. Well done Danny.

| Quote ="carl_spackler"I wouldn't disagree, probably at the expense of Turner. He took his try well, but in defense he has a habit of getting caught ball-watching and drifting out of position.
I do actually think that Lauaki should walk back in, for Cusack with Radford moving back up to prop. The fact that 3 of the 4 props have been singled out for threads about their performances speaks volumes about the 4th IMO.'"
Agree with all of that and the previous posts. Houghton's game has really come on in the previously weak areas of kicking and dummy half passing ( Webster mentoring?) and thought Turner left Whiting out to dry constantly. His defence was innefectual at best. Good with ball in hand though. Berrigan to centre has to make massive sense even just from an organisational and experience point of view. Could even push Turner out to the wing and bring Whiting in to bench/stand off/13.

| Did MOM go to Long? There were at least 3 who were better imo.
I half expected Houghton to get a call up for the France game actually given his current form and lack of quality hookers. He can't be far away if he keeps playing like that.

I put Houghton, Moa and Manu as my top 3 but i'd have had Ogre, Fitz and Tickle above Long too.
