Was having an how crap is the atmosphere debate with a few friends after sunday's game, for me personally my fondest memories of atmosphere at the boulevard was approx between 76 and 79, the two main factors being hull were coming out of a dark early 70's period and i was a young teenager, i can remember me and my mates getting in threpnee stand a good hour or so before kick off and the singing was already in full swing then!! Great days!. I'm sure theirs still a few on here who reminisce about not having much to say on a monday because of lost voice due to shouting and singing on a sunday!.

No arguements with that time period and you could extend that up to about 1985 when we were still competitive.

It's the old ex-player theory, the longer it is since they played, the better they get, because it's mainly the good things you remember. That doesn't mean that only the good times existed. The atmosphere at the Boulevard was as up and down as most grounds, it's just the level of the highs and the attachment to them that warps memory into thinking it was always like that. I started going a little before the Sharks days and at times the atmosphere was as dire as I've ever known at a rugby league game, but then at other times it really felt special. It's the nature of sport.

I remember games where pretty much the only sounds I heard were the people around me slagging off Hunte/Seru/AN Other, which is just as it is now.

It.s like people saying the Good old days from when I was young (scarlet fever/rickets dick nurse .we had to get our hair cut and then get your head covered in some smelly stuff .Good old days my back side

I'd say the McAlpine incident is the single biggest factor that has affected the atmosphere at home games. Dropped off after that when certain songs/chants were considered taboo, and has never quite got back to where it was.

I remember the first time I witnessed the scarf burning I nearly wet myself with fear I thought we the stand would burn down!!

Russ was ace, great back row with him, Marlow and Sharp, and a good front row for that matter

Don't think he needs to stand next to you at Wheldon road to find out what a sanctimonious cretin you are. You criticize him for for not being constructive, and then attack his post in a similar fashion except using paragraphs and slightly better English ("genericness" excluded).

Wheldon road is a fine example of a ground where there is atmosphere, and is very similar to the Boulevard in the 90's. Ask the people that stood in 3d around that time, TheBrother, Smallears etc and they will testify that all the claims being made about it are true. Even Leroy McKenzie who stood with us a few times when he was injured. Obviously not EVERY week was there constant singing, but under Simmons, Sigsworth etc, there was more than I've ever witnessed at any other ground in the last 22 years.

Personally I preferred the 3d, and I had more fun then. yes I was younger which I am sure has an effect, but I reckon maybe one game per season at the KC generates atmosphere. When in full swing, it is electric, but back in the early nineties, I remember good times (as regards having fun and singing)
Nowadays, its sometimes even a chore to bother going to some home games.
Give me terracing and chanting anytime over a sterile "nice" environment.
