| Quote ="Faithful One"I wasn't trying to counter anything, merely stating that those are the players we have who can play a certain position.
However, since you brought it up... With regards to the younger lads, how do expect them to get beyond playing "virtually no games between them" if they're not seen as genuine back up and we go out and sign players who would be picked ahead of them? In that list you name Navarette, Sutton, Thompson and Richards who have all recently come through various academies, maybe we should see if our lads can do the same?'"
Fair enough yes..They need opportunity. But need drip feeding into it. Based on our squad with 2 or more injuries (not difficult, had our fortunes this year in that regard) we're straight into putting them into a key part of what we do as a team and hoping they'll come through ok with no previous to go on. That's not usually how teams go about winning comps. Obviously how said teams above are not going about it. It's just my opinion but we're 1 shy of the right cover. I've seen enough of the young lads mentioned to feel fine about them coming in for a game or 2 under our own terms. Long term injury (anything over 3 or 4 week to a couple of our main men I'd worry

Fair points with regards to the long term cover. It's just difficult to manage the cap I guess, so becoming reliant on the youth players are a necessity (see wigan). If it was a choice between signed another forward who may not get much game time (hopefully), or signing a 6, then I don't feel we have much option.
An outside back is a strange one for me, unless someone like Naughton is leaving.

The Naughton rumour is a strong one, and if he leaves it will be disappointing. He's already back in Oz.

Agree not sure we need another outside back when we have Naughton, Connor and Logan. I'd use the cap to sign an experienced Stand Off.

As for noggers being back in Oz don't forget though his mum lives in Oz so could just be going back for the off season, so could be a bit of a red herring and fuelling the rumour.
Would be disappointed to see him go but it maybe to get the 6 that AP alluded too we have to ship some out & maybe Naughton is one, who knows.
With the resigning of Michaels you do wonder where Naughton will play and how often as for me when he comes in for the odd game he hadn't been great at times but when he had a run of games he was pretty good. Plus still young and no quota spot required for him so seeing as Lancaster has been released would be strange to see Naughton go too.

I also see Catalans have signed 32 year old Greg Bird on a 5 year contract!

Missed that about Greg Bird!
Great player on his day, but five years is crazy. No wonder they're having a clear out to free up some cap space.

Last 2 years of the 5 are as a coach, per the Beeb - so its an equally ridiculous 3-year deal. Great pension for him.

| In some ways our lack of an injury crisis this season proved to be a curse. I think that because his strongest 17 was available most weeks that Radders opted to play that 17. Which is understandable as it was very tight at the top of the table and fielding our strongest team whenever possible gave us our best chance of success.
Unfortunately that meant we had a few players out of energy by the end of the season as we perhaps didn't make as good a use of the squad and the u23's as we could of. Which also impacted some of our younger players as they didn't get the run outs they were maybe expecting to aid their development and gain them some experience.
Hopefully fortune will favour us again next year regarding injuries but we'll also have the chance (and take it) to rotate.

You dont need injuries to rotate the squad.
Cant blame Radford for going with his strongest 17 most weeks but i think he will re think this for next season as another lesson learnt as will his interchanges.

| Sorry I don't think I explained myself very well. I'm not blaming our "failures" on not having injuries. I don't consider a season where we won the Challenge Cup a "failure". Sorry if it read that way as it wasn't my intention.
And I agree that you don't need injuries to rotate. But I do think that we didn't rotate as much as we could have because our strongest 17 was available most weeks. Again something I said was understandable. And I think that lack of rotation played it's part in the players fitness levels by the end of the season but also meant that younger players didn't get the game time that they would have potentially got in previous years.
By saying that I hope fortune favours us I was trying to say I hope we have an injury free season again but, as bonaire said, that we learn to rotate better.

That was a lesson learned in the Championship by Leigh, 'bonaire'.
In 2015, Rowley went with his 'strongest' 17, week in, week out, and we finished top of the League. Come, the Qualifiers we had about eight of those players requiring ops. Some played on, and some were replaced, in key positions, by squad members who had hardly played. I must stress that we were by no means the only team in the Qualifiers, that was struggling with injuries, but the other seven teams handled the situation much better. Rowley was totally focused on 'topping the table', rather than rotating his sizeable squad.
This season, Neil Jukes has rotated his squad - either through injuries or suspension, or by choice - and, come the Qualifiers we had a fresher team on the pitch.
Rotation, if you can, is the way to go, especially if the prize comes, not at the end of the regular fixtures, but in the 'play-offs'.
Well done on an excellent season though!

| I think the only reason our season fell off a cliff was wembley. Nothing to do with fatigue or overplaying players IMO. Our worst performer post wembley was sneyd which had nothing to do with fatigue but effectively ended our season

Deffo a Wembley mega hangover. I think you're a little unfair on Sneyd, he benefitted from the indomitable pack, post Wembley, that was our biggest headache, not dominating the opposition.

Doesnt surprise me if Naughton is on his way out.Expect several other fringe players to depart also.
Now the club awards are over the club will start to make announcements.
One or two shocks i think

| Naughton has gone to Oz to see his mother. Something he did last year. Nothing new in it.
Maybe he will leave but think people are reading too much into his trip to Oz.
