I agree but what makes a Young Australian a great Coach?

That's why Hudds. & Wigan currently have a winning culture at their club.
They are pro-active in seeking out the best man for the job. Not just someone who happens to be the assistant at the time.
It's funny how Wigan binned Noble (despite nearly taking them to a couple of Grand Finals) for not acheiving success, & yet some would be overjoyed if we appointed him.
If Agar had acheived what Noble did at Wigan, Agar would have a job for life at FC. That's the difference.

Shortly after the Wakefield game IIRC, when the animosity was at it's peak. Was asked the usual thing about whether or not the board were considering the head coach position and quickly fired off his absolutely not bit followed by the fact that there were no coaches freely available anyway.
Obviously apart from the west yorkshire bloke on super league show who did everything but dance around with his hand in the air shouting "ME! I CAN DO IT! PICK ME!" every week around the same time. My favourite being his analysis of us which started with "I'm not one to question a super league head coach and tell them what they should be doing..." but then did and spoke perfect sense listing several of the blatantly obvious frailties we have that are discussed on here on a regular basis.

Thing is, you already went through a phase of expecting the imminent departure of Agar around March time, then did a U-turn and shouted at anyone maintaining the anti-Agar stance.
There were harsh meetings and unhappy board members then, for about a week, according to you. Then the official line changed pro-Agar again.
What's the difference this time and why didn't they just grab Noble then when there was still time to save the season? The pressure on him was far worse then than it is just at the moment.

I would be one of those pleased with Noble getting the job, but I wouldn't necessarily want him to stay long term, in the same way that I wouldn't Agar if he'd done the same job. Noble is probably the best we can currently attract and the perfect means to an end. He may not turn us into trophy winners, but he would get us amongst the contenders 2 or 3 years down the line (and we are at least that far off). We'd then be a much more appealing proposition to a genuinely top coach.

I agree mate for every McGuire and Brown there are plenty that don't succeed. Jason Taylor could come over and set the league alight, he could also come over and do nothing, it's always a gamble unless you are signing a proven coach.

I think that's a bit disrespectful to Noble, he is a top coach and is not just someone to keep a seat warm. With the same backing as Agar has had he could bring us silverware.

It's mad, isn't it? Following the club's a massive part of my life, but it's really hacking me off ATM. If it were "just" the cr@p results, that would be bad enough, but the PR department is worse. Bouncing the derby match report off the top of the website by 6pm yesterday to post an emotive headline about Long being in hospital typifies the attitude of our administration and its obsession with excuses and post rationalisaion. If the club put in a fraction of the effort into addressing the fact we've not won a play-off game since 2007 that they do in spin we'd be back to back double winners.

It maybe came across a bit more harshly than I meant. That's why I said necessarily. If he rebuilt the team he'd have earnt first crack at going for silverware. Just that if it didn't then look like he could take us that next step, we could then try and get someone in who could. I wouldn't bring him in with the definite intention of getting rid in 3 years' time, but neither would I want us to show the blind faith in flogging a dead horse like we have with Agar if it got to the stage where he'd taken us as far as he could. I'd be open-minded about it.
The point being that he would almost certainly make us better than we currently are, and I can't see anyone any better than him being remotely interested in the job, so I don't see much to be unhappy about if he somehow did end up here.

I agree, I know you were not being disrespectful but a few people have made a similar point. We just need a change and Noble would bring us some real structure and a gameplan.

But the thing with that is, they look a far weaker outfit this year with mainly the same squad and Harris in charge. The only significant loss they've had is Hauraki, really.

To be honest, I'd be happy with Noble as well. At least we would go from making the numbers up to being contenders.
I've wanted Agar to succeed (a successful young English coach is the ideal), but we all know it's just never going to happen.

It's because he hasn't got "his" team. It's a common problem in coaching. Apparently.

| Neither Hasler, Bellamy, Kearney would coach us. We couldn't afford them.
Moore will probably lose his job at the end of the season, Stone has a offer to stay on at Newcastle.
