| I did not jump on the Agar out as early as some, I gave him planty of opportunity to bed himself in. I was pleased when he was given the opportunity to coach the team, he had earned the right at least and I think most supported his appointment. He could have been one of the best coaches we ever had, many of us though so and even more of hoped he was. I wanted him to succeed a young English coach with young players packed with potential the future looked bright, oh how wrong it has turned out.
I have seen that he is inept in use of substitutions, his wierd positional team selections and the constant off laying of the blame. The use of spin, players being publically blamed for losses and the constant injury problems. We gave him time to put together "his team" and have watched a teamw e where all proud of back in 05 turn into what we see today. The team is full of old great players, journey men and a springling of local players who have survived the soviet style culls that have been a feature of late. The team is a poor one, we are strong in the forwards on paper and I think we have far too many second row forwards. We are weak at halfback due to signing a half back on megga bucks that is past his best and injury prone now, it was always going to be a gamble signing Longy its has not worked. Horney did well getting back from that neck injury he has not been the same since and we all knew it, how come we did not sign even some sort of cover. They could have signed Briggs from Fev they did not even try, he looked good last week for Bradford.
The backs are light and we all knew we needed a class centre, did we get one no we got another second row forward in Westerman. A good player but how long before he starts getting pushed around into the 6,7 or even 9 spots, remember Washy was once highly rated and under Agar has gone backwards.
Last term where he managed to beat out some very close wins, this saved him from the boot. I think we where aweful to watch and I know some people think winning is all important and the manner is does not matter. I do not buy into "we improved last year" theory, did we improve because of better coaching, players or did we get a bit of luck last year in the close matches. We did not perform very well against the top teams in the last three seasons and this year the competition will be more intense and we could well find ourselves down at the bottom end of the table for a long period.
My biggest fear has always been a spiral slide downwards, the crowd was clearly down on Friday night and I was even suprised it 12K. The next home game is Crusaders who will bring a coach load and it could well slip under the 10k figure very easily. If this continues it will put fans off for years, they have invested heavily in the club for years and been promised the world, they do not deserve what they have been served up.
I do not think Agar will go just yet, the board will have a keen eye on the payoff costs I am sure, but they can not and will not allow him to continue when he starts badly effecting the clubs income. I do not think Noble will come here under the present regime, the way the club runs the playing side is well known within the coaches of this game of ours. A few changes are required within the club to put right what has been wrong for years within the coaching set up, one of them is that the head coach has ABSOLUTE CONTROL concerning the playing staff. The back room staff in recent years has been decimated with many long serving servants of the club "purged" for one reason or another in favour of more preferred people closer to the mangement way of thinking.
Getting rid of Rich Agar is only part of the problem, he will only be replaced with some one similar unless deeper changes happen.

| If Agar goes do people know what they actually want? There are many reason why Agar could be wanted out by the fans and I would agree with most of them but I wonder how long a new person would be given but they suffer the fans backlash. I am not defending Agar but just asking what do we want?
I would look at Saints and Leeds who have just appointed new coaches and ask would the Hull fans have been happy with either McDermott or Simmons? McDermott is hardly a top coach and does anyone think Leeds comeback at MM or impressive performance on Friday was down to him? I don't, I just saw a typical Leeds style display. Same with Simmons, did their comeback or demolition come as a result of the new coach or was it down to a typical Saints style performance? I don't think either of those two would have been looked upon favourably by the fans and with good reason. The fact is the type of ruby both those sides play are ingrained in them. Of course a coach could do a tweak here of there but they will always play 'their' rugby. Under Mcrae we played some great rugby but never had anything to show for it, Sharp came in and changed us into a team that attacked the ruck and got us to a GF and since then it has stuck. To me a lot of it comes down to the players mentality and that is a battle any new coach of Hull will have.
I don't think a new coach can work miracles and I think the process will be a slow one as the mentality of the player needs to change. People bang on about a new scrum half but even if we signed Thurston it won't change our style overnight, it needs a comeplete change in mindset and that will take time. Take Bradford with Orford, he produced the odd moment of brilliance but the Bulls never looked any better. I think we sometimes give up on players too easily, Washbrook for example, the same thing happened with Brough who had he stayed would have maeant we did not have the halfback problems we have had for the last 5 years. yes he had problems but we could have worked on them, he is exactly what we lack.
I'd love Noble to get the job personally, he would bring some defensive tactics to our game such as a rush defence and he would bring real structure to our play. People give huge praise to McGuire but imo he benfitted hugely from what Noble did at Wigan and whislt he has done a great job Noble gave him an ideal platform to work from.
Whoever we bring in once Agar eventually leaves I think we need to be patient and not expect miracles.

| The crusaders played some great attacking rugby at times last season under Noble . Huddersfield (Remember when they were just bash and barge )have embraced a new attacking mentality under Brown but have kept their rigorous defensive qualities in no more than a couple of seasons.
Wire got rid of Cullen and look at the way Smith has them playing now .I don't think fans are expecting miracles but you look at what other teams have done in a couple of seasons and what we have done .

| I along with thousands of Hull Fc fans just want to see all the energy the players put in on and off the field channelled into something resembling 'structure, direction, and most of all entertainment'. For me this has to fall into the coaches responsibility.
Halfbacks or not we have endured 3 seasons of watching forwards trundling up the pitch and then for a random player to kick aimlessly towards the opposition.
Friday night for me showed we can play 'some' decent stuff; Sharps try coming from an overlap and the Briscoe run, but on the whole we are just too predictable and negative in our play.
To get a grasp on how bad we are you have to look for the positives in our playing style.
Sorry to say Richard, “You have failed”

I agree about Noble, wouldn't be a bad choice by any stretch of the imagination. I know some people have said we could do better, but I don't think we're in a position to ATM. Noble could at least get us back on the right track for somebody to take over a much healthier situation in 3 years' time. For all we finished higher last season, I don't honestly believe we're any closer to being contenders than the previous few seasons. When it comes to crunch time we are severely lacking. As you say, at least Noble could get us to the stage where a real top coach would both be interested and able to take us that next step.

| I don't know enough about Aussie assistant coaches to have a view. Some have come over and done well, others haven't. I'm not really a huge Noble fan, but there are precious few occasions when a coach of his calibre is without a job and saying publicly he wants a coaching role at a club that's underachieving.
If we were to replace with McNamara, it would be (almost ) the final straw for me, having spent the last couple of years hearing Bradford fans around here complaining and wanting him out, then rejoicing at the appointment of Potter.

Hudds are not much different imo in terms of style of play. They still attack around the ruck and kick well whcih they did before Brown. The difference is everything they do now they do to a higher standard, I always thought Hudds were more than bash and barge.

Noble is also pretty good when it comes to recruitment, he did a good job for Wigan and the Crusaders aswell as at Bradford.
