I personally think Orford will end up staying put or going to Wigan, Finch and Kimmorley could be the two that become available along with Fien.'"
I take Finch, Kimmorley and Fien in that order.

I only want an experienced scrum half if we sign a young stand off with bags of potential.

We have Horne to play alongside whoever we sign, unless we lose Motu and play him at fullback.
Either way I cannot envisage that we will sign two halves.

So short term solutions again eh? I agree that Horne can perform at 6 with a quality 7 dictating play but we need a youngster capable of covering both, and to be our long term replacement.

Short term solutions? Where?
Horne at 6 has at least another 5 years in him and we don't know what age the SH will be as yet so who is to say how many years they will have?
2/3 years is a long time in RL.

Agreed, I believe that Richard Horne is one of the best British stand-offs in the country (alongside Pryce). The difference with Pryce and Maguire is that they play alongside very good scrum-halfs.
Its no co-incidence that when we saw the best of Horne, and the team for that matter, was when he was playing alongside Cooke.

I was referring to the touted list of possible 7's on here. Every player in sport is either on an ascent or a decline. I'm pointing out or need to sign the former. Horne will never lead us around the park and is the best fullback at the club. If we had two creative forces and one of them was on the up in career terms, we'd have the foundations to be a force for years to come.

While I see your point, the problem is that we [ineed[/i a short-term solution. We need an experienced 7 now or we can write off the next few seasons, and I don't think the fans will have the patience to do that while a young 7 learns his trade with us.
Plus you have the problem of who such a youngster would learn his trade from at our club...

| lets just hope we get a 7 who can guide us round the pitch . If it is finch , kimmorley or orford we should be happy as they are all good players in their own right . Also we have a very good 6 in horney who should be able to play with any of them .

I want both Kosh! We should have plenty of space on the cap with our imports leaving/not coming and Horne and King's wages will only count as half (When's Yeamo been here 10 years?), the way I see it is we shouldn't have many performance enhanced contract upgrades so we should be able to sign at least 4 quality players.

It's 50k max benefit on the cap mate, no matter how many testimonial players you have in.

I'd like both but we also need to strengthen in other areas, getting one good halfback will prove difficuly nevermind two. I agree with your thought process but it's just not workable for next season.

Id take
1.Orford
2.Kimmorley
3.Finch
4.Long
5.Fien
6.Myler
Also McRae has indicated, that to keep Myler at the club,
will be very difficult.

IF Motu Tony's contract is not renewed,or he leaves for another club.
Is it feasible, to sign both Orford/Kimmorley and Finch??- (and play Horne at fullback)
Regarding a centre, how about the PNG guy at Sheffield??
I can just see the headlines!!

Sounds like an outside back so I would guess a centre.

| Haven't read all pages but if Saints are to let Long go they will obviosly be in the market for a top scrum half, if we have eyeballed a player should we be making our move now.

I'd love Orford, but dot see that as a possibility but would love to be proved wrong.
We need a scrum half. We also need either a stand off or Fullback and use Horne in the other position.
That could change if Tony proves his worth over the next couple of months.
It's worth noting that we have two very good halfbacks coming through in Danny Nicklaus and Lee Williams, but they will need a couple of years to devlop.
I dont think Myler is what we need, he looks more of a Richard Horne type player, as said a few times Matty Smith would be a better signing IMO.

Could try and sign Matty Smith and then an overseas SO and play Horne at fullback?

Let's be honest if Saints were to come in there wouldn't be much chance for us.
