| the thing that baffles me about berro is some one isn't on his shoulder at all times often he is stood there at dummy half then see's a gap go's for it draws the deffence or half goes threw a gap turns round and no one is within 10 meters of him. when ever he's had a good game in the last two years there has been no one else to back him up and playing with a worls class scrum half can only help him

| I really don’t understand the people in the “no more excuses for Berrigan” camp. The guy could have used the simple fact that he has been surrounded by e for the two years that he has been here as an excuse to simply lye down and taking home his money.
Instead, he has given his all for the club, played injured and in various positions and tried to be a leader. Sure, he has not always performed magnificently, but I would put that down to the fact that he has had to slow down his game to fit in with the squad. Anyone who questions the effort and commitment he has shown in a Hull shirt is having a giraffe imo.
Providing he stays fit next season, he will be a genuine contender for man of steel, and will only miss out because of the simple fact that he plays for us.

it's a good post but this thread isn't knocking Berrigan and it wasn't meant to come across like that. i didn't even realise there was an "anti-Berrigan camp" to be honest. i am just looking forward to seeing him play to his full potential next season that is all!

there was a "sick of seeing Berrigan tanked up in Hessle" camp, which was fair enough.
New season, new start, with better players around him.

Playing with the mentality he had to deal with last year would be enough to turn anyone to drink!!
This term I believe we shall see the "freak" we all remember in green and gold!! the guy is every inch world class but he isnt now the only one in the squad who is world class so he can concentrate on HIS game and not covering everyone elses!!
Cmon Berro

I'm in the camp where i am a bit annoyed with him drifting in and out of games and us not seeing the best from him for 2 season. I agree this is partly down to the players around him but putting that to one side he has still be a huge disappointment. I want him to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and turn his class on consistently for the whole 80 mins not patches of 10 mins.
I hope with the better players around him we see this. If not i'll be disappointed again.

My post was aimed at the few on the thread who indicated that with the new signings we have made, there would be no more excuses for Berrigan. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I am not entirely sure why people feel that Berrigan would need to hide behind excuses for the performances he has already given in a Hull shirt.
If everyone who’s played for the first team over the last 2 seasons had but the same effort and commitment into their game’s as Berrigan, then I am certain that we would have finished higher up the league table on both occasions, despite our visa and injury issues.

You haven't mentioned the injuries he has had which have not helped him in particular his shoulder problems. I don't think they should be put to one side. I am hoping for much more myself. He isn't a halfback but has had to play there a fair bit especially last year.

I appreciate that. I still would want more from him. Fingers crossed a full season at 9 benefits him and hope he stays fit too. With the side we have maybe we have the luxury of giving him a couple of games off ifhe does pick a knock up rather than being forced to play him.

Good point that I do think he has carried injuries a lot in games. Better go forward from the pack will hopefully protect him a bit and an extended run just at 9 should hopefully do the trick.

I guess Danny Houghton will have progressed in the off season too. I'd hope that if Berro needs a fortnight off Houghton could play 80 mins, if not share the role with Washy or something like that just to give him a break.

fairplay chico. i'm sure when Berrigan gets cleared from his injury and match fit he will start to rock n roll and he will not let anyone down. hopefully man of steel contender that would be brilliant
unlike paul king in parkers. man of stella award

| Agree about him not living up to his reputation but playing injured, out of position and with a bunch of deadbeats as well hasnt helped him either....we have a hughe nasty pack next season which will help him and i also believe he is suffering from following Swain who was a truly superb player for us...if he hadnt followed him and his high standard...i doubt this thread would be here.

I think anyone who would have followed on from Swain would have had big boots to fill, But agree , Berrigan has the platform to work his magic.

Good post Mark and the thing is Berro has never been the same type of player as Swain. Hopefully he will be re-focused with the new arrivals coming in and will no longer be expected to be the star man every week.
With the pressure off and injury free we might just get to see the real Berro.

Fair comment and a good post, but would Swain have had anymore of an impact in the side of the past 2 seasons than Berrigan?
Swain was class, and 1 of my all time favorite FC players, but he was surrounded by a far better crop of players than what Berro has had around him, up until now.
I don't want to compare who is/was better between Swain and Berro, because they have different styles and one played for the club in our most successful period for 20+ years, and the other whilst the club was at it’s lowest ebb over a similar period. What I can compare though is effort, commitment and dedication to the cause and imo Berrigan is not too far behind Swain in either of those categories.
