That I'd agree with, but he has actually said that we need a big cull again. Kind of goes against his 'it's all Agar's fault' stance IMO.

Why the cull of players if it is solely down to the coaching where the problem lies then?

| Best is my only regret of recent years
And i kind of think, if we kept Cooke, just how much better he could have been? no doubts when he went he was our best player.

I mean we'll re sign a stack of average players and our key squad members will sit in the stands for most of the season

Because agar is the one who signed or re signed most of the donkeys and injury prone players

| I have two regrets, three but one player is still with us.
We've signed 3 youngsters with massive talent and havent been able turn them in to good players.
I see one more not reaching his potential as well.

We still don't need a cull. We have a few too many grafters, or 'donkeys' as you put it, but every squad needs some. And by injury prone players I presume you mean Long? He's a class player and he's had a couple of different injuries, it's not like he signed a player with a known problem. I've done my fair share of Agar-bashing, but the type of injuries we've been getting really are the kind you can't expect or legislate for. In fact, the one player who has had a poor injury record in recent years has been one of our only ever-presents and possible POTY.
As I said, so long as we make the right choices we don't need an overhaul. 4 or 5 exits probably.

the squad isn't awful I agree, and a decent coach would have them performing a lot better.
the recent lack of ambition from the board will probably mean we'll sign a collection of has beens and no-hopers...so long as they're cheap and the passes keep selling.

| Why is a lack of ambition?
The board aims to, at least, brake even.
In their yearly forecast we might only have 60k for a coach.
Agar might be the best we can get for that.

| I can see the good parts and bad ofall players we let go however I still think that Cooke could do a job, Lee had bagsof potential but was never given a chance really...
Miss Motu a lot he was a top bloke and really loved our club!! without injuries he could have gone on to be remembered like Swain, kemble etc

| Should have kept King and not signed Cusack.
King is a better player IMO (at least different to the other workhorse props) and we could have used the quota spot for a back.
Maybe could have kept Lee, used him as a hooker and used Berrigan in the backs also.

If businesses only ever aim low they'll always under achieve
Whilst i wouldn't suggest we throw away financial prudence, the difference between paying for agar and paying for a top coach is probably equivalent to another 1000 people turning up at each home in the season (possibly substantially less if they also spend in the shop).
To put it into context, our last home game attracted over 2200 less than our previous lowest home gate this season, due, we must assume, to the poor form in the games leading up to it. The cost of employing a poor coach is probably more than employing a top one in real terms

The only job cooke could do well at the kc now is making sure the kingston suite bar doesn't fall over before and after the match

Despite this he could have used as our 5th prop, it was more about using Cuscak quota spot as it must be one of the biggest waste in our history using a quota spot on him.
Could have even used Lauakia as prop and kept G Horne for the backrow.

| Quote ="Mrs Barista"In the spirit of positivity, halfway through the season do we regret releasing any of the players we released last year, or were they all the right decision?
Byrne - not played anymore AFAIK
Tony - Just signed for Whitehaven
Raynor - probably had to release on the basis of the court case
Lee - Been injured quite a bit, I think
Thackray - been poor from what I've seen
Thorman - York City Knights - say no more
G Horne - done much the same at Hudds as here IMO - adequate squad player only
Maloney - Halifax - haven't really seen him
King - pretty anonymous when selected
Cordoba - Cronulla - no idea
Seems like the right decision in all cases was to release, although possibly I think Lee/Houghton could have been developed into a decent hooking combo for when Berro goes, plus would have been interesting to see whether Lee could have been developed as a 7 under Long.'"

agree there Paul! wouldnt have not one of them back, most went for a reason, and one the majority at the time agreed with, they was all average (Moto and Raynor excluded, although Raynor had to go, due to his off the field antics), so why are we talking about having regrets now???

Nah. Noticed Kear and Cooke are getting some stick on the Wakefield forum (see the "time for Kear to go" thread).
