Connor will end up taking the place of Naughton this season as a reserve.
Trying to use him as a bench player week after week wont work.
There will have to be a shake up of our bench next week as Watts will get a ban and Ellis probably doubtful.
Dont know whats happened to Fash as he seemed to be the next prop in line but Masi looks to have taken over as the no 1 reserve prop so he may get a game next week along with Turgut.

Terrible evening for him....like many. Bad 1st half then got pretty lively for a while2nd. Just a bad day at the office for him

I loved how a couple of times he made errors and came back with a good play or hit. Defo mentally tough. The attemptied 40.20 was absolutely the wrong play at that time. But you had to have massive balls to go for it then. I like that in a player. Bad day yesterday but he'll be an asset and a good player for us

A very frustrating game and a poor performance. Shades of the bad points of last season with ill discipline and an over reliance on Sneyd and Ellis. Losing Ellis knocked us off our stride and we had no spark in attack.

Early days and lets remember we lost two of our first three home games last season.

On that display last night and your pre season games, your so called big misters might cop for a revenge come August.

Didn't think we were on it at all and feared the worst when our captain departed.
Sika gave it a good shot and enjoyed Scotty T going a hunting.

There's no call for players or coaches heads just people picking the bones out of a poor match.

Connor isn't a stand off? Made some mistakes but thought he did ok personally. Timing in attack was off all round so too early to jump to that conclusion. Kelly will be stand off so doubt Connor has had much time to gel and get used to each other's play.

Underwhelmed by Griffin and he can't tackle? Again thought he did a decent job and made some good tackles on Inu. He won't come up against much bigger and better centres than him this season. Talanoa`s positioning was off a couple of times in attack which made Griffin look worse.

Confident all these things will improve as the season progresses and weather improves.

Looking at the stats, did well to only get beat by 2, as dominated in all areas, errors and discipline as expected let us down, would love to know our completion rate.

Massive shout out to Houghton, 67 tackles!!! Thought him, Manu and Carlos were the only players to come out with any credit.

On to the next game and not a lot to change yet, obviously bring in Kelly, but really not sure what to do with Connor, showed flashes last night, but don't like having him on the bench, to write him and Griffin off after one game is very naive, thought the 40/20 was the right decision just poorly executed.

Strangely Shaul and Sneyd must up their games (Sneyd has to improve his creativity for me, kicking is good, although not last night, but needs to do more with passing and running).

You would hope that Watts has had his punishment and the club and it just about cost us the game, his abs Taylor's penalties really cost us last night at crucial times.

Did he? I thought he was pretty much absent for good portions of last season. To be fair though he was played out of position.

Catalan came with a game plan and kept to it through out the game, we didn't turn up but has bad has Hicks was we didn't help ourselves too many errors too many penalties.

We had no field position and did too much defending but we started like this last year and came good so we need to keep faith in what Radford is doing after last season I think he's earned that.

Has Dave K said we needed alot more passing and running which i believe Kelly would of done and taken some of the pressure off Sneyd.

Terrible game and poor result. Our bench is a real concern and although Frank didn't kill it in SL he certainly gave the opposition something to think about when he came on last year. We don't have that type of player this season. Connor was pretty average overall on the back of a ridiculously slow ptb as was Sneyd. Little difference between them as we created nothing on the right or left through hands of the half backs. Very disappointing but it's very early days.

Good post. We deserved nothing from the game but defence was brutal at times against a physical Catalans team. Kelly and Ellis play and maybe we would have sneaked it, but this, as Saddened! mentioned, is our challenge. First choice 17 availability is crucial for us. The game against Huddersfield could see us have anything from a full strength pack to one missing Watts, Taylor, Ellis, and Hadley, which would put us right on the back foot in a really important game. If we lose that to a team tipped in some quarters to finish bottom and with Saints (H), Warrington (A) and Wigan (A) 3 of the next 4 games, things could look pretty tough early on, much as they did last year I guess.

Taylor and Watts actually cost us the game. Taylor a bit out of character and sloppy hunting big shots and not effecting the tackles
Watts unfortunately showed exactly why he doesn't get picked or near England set up
Mini was in paper saying about looking after his old mate Bird..comes out 2nd and misses along with houghton a simple tackle that cost 6 points

I didn't see to much wrong with Hull last night, defence line was solid, your forwards were always looking to do the hard yards and Houghton's industry in defence and from acting half was exceptional.
What you didn't have was someone on the field to make decisions and changes to the game plan (once Ellis went off) which ment you repeated your mistakes.
People on hear are saying "when Kelly's back"
He will score you points and do the unexpected, but don't expect leadership or team play. These are things he knows nothing about.
I think if Ellis has an injury prone season, you will need to find a new on field leader.

I think we could have a few players missing for Huddersfield - I believe Wattsy could be up before the Disciplinary for 3 separate charges, Taylor for a late challenge/ shoulder charge and Mini leading with his elbow?

Still think Radford is getting is subs wrong, not for the first time last night we had Ellis, Manu, Taylor and Watts on the bench, think Mini played 80, while Thompson and Washy, played very few minutes.

I'd mix the bench up maybe and start Green and washy, have watts and Mini on the bench to give something for the opposition to think about.

I think the point about Kelly is not that he's going to organise, but simply that he allows Sneyd to focus on that part of his game whilst Kelly can ask some questions of defences himself. Agree on the other points; but Ellis is irreplaceable for us in the way that Sinfield has proven to be for Leeds. A talismanic player with quality, heart, incredible work ethic and exceptional leadership. What an honour it's been for us to see him at our club.
