Both teams had players missing so lets discount that myth that we would have won had we had a full complinent, because no one knows had we both been at full strength.
What cost us was our lack of ability to turn possession into points which has been a recurring theme as has our discipline.
For all our dominance we got beat by Rovers. They're never say die attitude and willingness to give the ball air undid us.
For all our grunt we'll never get anywhere without some attacking flair.
So deflated right now.

totally agree, some just cant wait to have a gripe, we did well tonight without 6/7 players, yes we got beat in the last 5 secs but hey ho, we wont go far wrong if we can play like that and get some players back, green Bowden and westy would add some bulk to our pack and Kelly connor some class to the backs, am confident we will be challenging for the top 5,

Our finishing was not quite good enough but attack generally was not bad. Great improvisation for Dawson Jones try and for Faraimo’s the ball went the full width of the field on the last tackle. We gave the ball away in three critical situations which lead to their tries, Faraimo losing the ball, Paea giving away a penalty in the tackle and Sneyd’s final kick. Shaul was excellent.

Defence was much better than last season on the whole but I thought our go forward was poor. We only just made over 1000 metres in the whole game. We desperately need some forwards back to give us some size and more options.

3 forwards and 3 backs missing tonight who would all have played if fit including 2 of our 3 best players who are also our most creative. I think if kelly and/or connor were playing tonight we'd have won, however rovers are pretty garbage and will likely be bottom 4 so I don't think the game is any great indicator that we're a decent side.

I thought the work ethic was brilliant though and lane, matongo and litten all showed up well. paea is finished though. I can't believe sneyd didn't kick that ball into touch on our last set. It's what he's done time and time again for us. We needed a controlled turnover. Even a drive and turnover on the line so we could set our defence would have seen us home IMO.

Ultimately it's disappointing to lose the way we did but overall it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, mainly because we defended well and rovers were pretty poor.

We'll probably lose more than we win this year and be somewhere around 7th or 8th. It's imperative that we recruit well for next year and move on a large number of players who aren't at the top of their game any longer

dawson-jones and thompson showed why they were in the championship last year IMO

Pace of the game and the skill on show. Did you not see both games? Although the end was exciting, I thought overall that tonights game was pretty boring. I'm sure the weather played a part in that though

Masi is gradually, but definitely getting there.

Too much lateral movement. Mini especially needs to start going forward. Paea needs to improve. At the moment, and last season , he has been disappointing.

Players running across the field isn't an issue if you have players running angles to give them options but we never do. Too much aimless passing the ball with no real intent tonight

paea was poor, Thompson imo not a prop, we need our 3 missing forwards back soon, hopefully bienik gets fit soon as I believe hes better option than both paea and Thompson,

Ooofff. Bitter eh. Difficult to take that though I appreciate. For a first game of the season it was pretty good quality. Good defence by both sides. Not too many errors for an opener in th owe conditions.
Better quality than any of the derbies last year.
Rovers will get better. Without our 1 and 9 and 2other first teamers and 8 derby debuts, 5 club debuts. With the injured players we might have our 60 on you.

All the second half we couldn’t get out our own half each set until the last one couldn’t believe Sneyd didn’t kick to touch he seems to do it all the time Paea was terrible chuffed we won think it’s 5 years since we beat you at home
