My take on it would be two fold.
1. The last line of defence is only ever called upon when the 1st line of defence fails. Thats were the bigger issue is.
2. The modern full back for me isnt all about kick returns. Most of the good stuff that we do going forward comes through Tansey at 1. Whether that means Agar is right to play with full back as a pivot is debatable though. I'd maybe prefer to see a ball playing 13.

If you hadnt noticed a previous poster mentioned Tansey and i replied giving my opinion of him. I am not blaming Tansey for everything but dont let that get in the way of your rather boring and continuous disagreement with me.

I think thats a bit harsh. I agree i would not like him as my perminent full back, but he is a good squad player as he has great utility value was cover.

Strange thing is, its not that long since Tansey was being praised on these forums for his attacking play (especially last season) and his ability to provide an alternative from a set move from an attacking scrum.

Everybody can see that almost everything good we do Tansey is involved in, his positional play is on the whole, very good, and I'm extremely confident when a high bomb goes up to Tansey as 99 times out of 100 he pouches it.
He's had a couple of games now were he's made a few bad decisions. Also, why am I the only one that thinks his kick returns aren't too bad? Watch the best FB in the world (Slater), his kick returns are exactly the same style.

I was with you until this little bit of madness. Tansey is a decent FB IMO but his kick returns are extremely average. Slater nearly always beats the first man, usually the 2nd too, but above all that he runs it out with 100% vigour. Tansey ambles upto the first tackle, it's almost lethargic looking at times. He seems to be safe under the high ball but misses his fair share due to poor positioning at times. As a last line of defence, he is shocking. For me, Tansey compensates for his flaws with his support play and contribution to the attack, he's about the only player that we have that has an un-predictive flare.

Did you watch Slater this morning? He was average at best.
I meant the style they bring the ball back in, not the execution of it. They both get the ball jog it back, jink a bit then try to accelerate through the gap. Slater is better at it, that's all I meant.

Tansey seems to have lost his enthusiasm in recent months, after last seasons performances I thought we had got a good signing and a good full back, havn't much more from him this season though. But I would be looking to see if any full backs come available for next season and move Tansey to stand off or to the bench utility spot.
