| I ain't got a problem with Kingy as such but Whitehaven FFS?
Has he ever been there? It rains everyday, even on dry days it still rains. Everything is grey, the sky, the sea, the buildings - everybloodything is grey. If you spot some colour, it's like that little girl in the red coat in Schindler's List, they shouldn't be there, warn them away, something bad is bound to happen to them.
Even Batley would be preferrable to Whitehaven

Indeed, but he's a Hull lad so he's a "legend" or some such other garbage, if he'd have put half the effort into training as he did to drinking he could have been one of the best props we'd seen at FC in many years.
Him and two bobs are the biggest wasted talents I've seen in an FC shirt.

but based on his performance yesterday (which I witnessed), he wasn't good enough/fit enough for a team playing at Championship level. He did 2 15 minute spells at championship 1 level and was puffing a fair bit after both spells.

I've never seen or heard anyone refer to King as a legend. He could have been, but didn't make the most of his undoubted talent. He's not the first, and he won't be the last. He's not an embarrassment to the game though, he's just a decent player who could have been much, much better than that.

I'm not saying they haven't, merely that I've never seen anyone do so. Who, as a matter of interest?

| LEGEND.....a person whose fame or notoriety makes him a source of exaggerated or romanticized tales or exploits.
Have seen the 'legend' word thrown around many threads in the past. When its taken in its real form then there are many crap players who would get 'legend' status.................dont have to be good to be a legend!!!!!!!

He was never a legend but he could have been.
I believe he always had the talent and the ability but the problem was his attitude which was frankly, unprofessional in the modern era. Some of his antics may have been acceptable in the 1980s but not now.
The fact that he was a "Hull lad"/"Black and White through and through" led to some fans forgiving failings in him that they would not have tolerated in players from outside the area.

| Nobody could get the crowd going like paul king.
how many times when we needed to raise the tempo in a game did Kingy come steaming in at 100 mile an hour with a crunching tackle, the crowd would start singing and the whole team would lift.
I will always remember him fondly just for those few instances when he showed how passionate he was as a hull player.
None of us are perfect and if he had been born 30 years earlier people would definately be calling him a legend and complaining about the fact that we don't get characters like him anymore.

Regarding the bold points.
Absolute tosh. From the point he started to partner Greenhill at the bar he was a shadow of the player he was prior to 2002.
Your post should read, how many times did he miss the man whilst running out he line, leaving a significant gap for the opposition to glide through.
How many times did he let himself, his team mates and the fans down? The answer to that is far more often than putting in game changing performances.

I never said he was great, I just said I'll remeber him fondly because of the passion he showed and more often than not he was the player that got the crowd going.
read my lips
"Those few instances"
that's all.I'll remember those few instances rather than be a complete prick and slag him off for achieving more than I ever could

He was the player that he was. I enjoyed watching him play and as a local lad the fans always got behind him when he arrived on the pitch. When he came out of the line and got the man it lifted the side just like Yeaman does now. I personally dont give a what he did outside of the game. It was his choice and imo he did not let the fans down as that was Kingy and everyone knew that.

Makes it just that bit special, when a local lad makes the grade, weve all dreamt it, and when we see an Hull lad on the pitch, it does lift the crowd.
Like you Seb, i enjoyed watching Kingy, never a legend, but a good lad, and what he did outside of rugby, never really concerned me, he'll have his own regrets, of that im sure, but good luck to him,and hope he enjoys his rugby at Haven!

He may have had plenty of passion but he was short on professionalism and on occasions he did indeed let down the fans and his team mates.
