That would be my take on it. Seems strange that he keeps mentioning it though. I cant see any way that it takes him off the quota. Not altogether sure it makes getting a Visa easier either.

I think I read once that whilst the quota system had changed to a "non-federation trained" system, where the restriction is currently 5 per club, there is a maximum of 3 within this 5 that can be old quota (Australian). If this is the case, and it's purely speculation on my part, perhaps it is that aspect of the "quota" he is trying to get off.

They have that many Australians that are no longer Australian it really is quite baffling.

We could sign any average lower league hooker like Fisher, we could sign almost any under 21 average hooker with potential like Hodgson, or we could make do with Tansey who has started at hooker for Leeds more times than he started in any other position for them. I agree that his discipline is terrible and I personally would get rid, but the fact remains that he was deemed good enough to start at hooker for Leeds, and neither Fisher nor Hodgson would IMO. Nor would Fisher or Hodgson start for the Sydney Roosters.

That is correct the rfl can make the rules but they do not govern the law.

The meeting between the clubs and the rfl will have discussed that to reduce the quota by a certain amount was to benefit the english players and the england team going forward and agreed on by everyone but it always relied on the clubs buying into it and not looking for loopholes etc.

Guess the Oz mafia at KR is stronger then we could ever imagine.
