| Quote ="WormInHand"You have missed the point by such a distance it reminds me of one of our drop goal attempts.
Burns and his Sportstalk programme continually persist to undermine Hull FC at all levels from the board through the coaches to the team performances and have done since the sour grapes that were trodden during Cookiegate.
All publicity is NOT good publicity if it is eternally negative. People start to believe there are embers under the smoke and the target becomes a victim. The world is now in a financial depression catalysed by media frenzy, Peter Sharp (the lucky devil) sits paddling his toes from his beach side veranda, poor Jade Goody went from evil rascist to tragic celebrity purely as a result of the changing strategies the media decided to direct at her.
Fewey was another example. The letters he received became increasingly anti-Hull the more he poked fun at us EVERY WEEK in his column. Rule eventually intervened there as well.
He had to - just as he had to pounce when given this opportunity by Burns finally overstepping the mark.
Because negativity breeds and tall poppies wither and die.
Our club and fans don't deserve or need that. One man's bitterness cannot be allowed to even begin to scrape something that is great in our city. Burns and Fewey wax lyrical about the greatness of Duffen and what he has brought to the city. Hull FC have been ambassadors for decades, along with Hull KR. These fly-by-nights who undermine that should be forced to stop if their respective employers will not take steps.
The fact remains that Burns should represent, as an employee of our local BBC, whose wages are paid by us, EVERYTHING positive in our local sport. Of course, there are times when bad things happen and this should rightly be highlighted as part of the overall ups and downs of sport and it's politics.
But Burns doesn't do this with regard to our club. His spite continully chips away daily encouraging the sheep he allows on his program who call themselves Hull FC fans to spread his poison.
Rule can't stop that. But he has, and rightly, cauterised the news supply.'"
Excellent post.
While walking around one of the stores in the city centre yesterday a group of elderly’s were griping about the state of the club, quoting Dumberside and the Nearly Mail alongside other recent rumours.
These rumours and bullpap do have a negative effect on the people/fans of the club/city.
The last thing we need is dead wood like Burns adding fuel to the fire.

I have to say that what I read here is about the best argued and well debated post I have seen in months. You have hit the nail on the head particulaly about the sheep following, because a lot of folks and many on here, actually believe what they hear as the gospel truth. I have heard him on several occassions when I have been in his company, boasting about how the more gripes he gets the better he feels. We now have three of our regions 5 proffessional clubs taking issue one way or another with the radio station, surely that must point to something being a miss!!
great post!!

| I don't like the idea of banning media organisations but it has to be said Burnsy's crusade against FC is pathetic and when you think he has also alienated himself from other clubs like Grimsby and Hull City then maybe Hull have done the right thing. The bloke is a complete and utter clown and I don't know how he keeps his job.

| I listened to the burns rant and I agree that he overstepped the mark in some of his statements. I do think the irony of the fans being up in arms is that he was basically agreeing with what 99% of what the FC fans were saying, both on here, on phone ins and all the ones I generally know.
The 2 main gripes Hull have had with RH is the Cooke story and the Reardon story, both of which although not in Hulls favour (and in fairness reported a bit too vehemently) have been true and reortable. In fact I'd go as far as to say the station would be doing a disservice to the public if they hadn't reported the incidents.
Banning the station will serve no real benefit in fact it will be more detrimental to the club in the long run, love it or hate it RH is the local radio station with the widest listener base. The club should have risen above this, released a statement of displeasure and even complained to the BBC director general and the indepent complaints board but taken the moral high ground and carried on in dialogue.
The easiest way for your club to halt this type of incident is really to firstly aim away from its own feet with the shot gun if that proves difficult then at least refrain from pulling the trigger and emptying both barrells into their feet.
If the club (and Hull City) were performing well then I feel this type of PR disaster would not be occuring or if it did it would be last weeks news, but as the club is percieved by its fan base to be struggling then its blown out of proportion and I believe an element of diversionary tactics is employed to 'get the fans off the clubs back'
I know I am probably biaised so although I feel I am being fair it may have a red view on it. But lets face it this kind of action does nothing for the club, the city or the sport.
