Another try, slick from Connor & Ma'u after the first 40/20 of the year.

Pretty pleasing first half. Some nice touches from Hull.

Reynolds looking handy and that riught hand side with Calos, Fonua and Savelio could be potent this year.

I'm liking seeing Sneyd popping up on both sides of the pitch and not just stuck down the left.

Be plenty of interchanges now I expect. Good first half.

Savelio impressing so far. Satae and Sao both got stuck in early doors as well.

Some pleasing performances with Swift showing up well, although a few errors by Connor his link up play is a plus, Houghton looks more like his old self, Reynolds & Sneyd look to be complementary to each other’s game. Some big physical defensive stints too across the 13.
Have to say York look a good side so far too and should do well.

Attitude to defend has vastly improved, not many times York has had the opportunity to kick in our half. Which appeared to be a broken record for the last 3 seasons.

A few observations from that half.

We have stuck to a fairly basic gameplan. Keeping it down the middle quite a lot and just looking for those quick play the balls to build momentum. The weather has probably played a part in that.

I think our kick chase has been excellent, and there is a massive improvement in our line speed and wrestle. We look like we have spent a long time working on getting numbers in the tackle, holding the man up and having them play the ball on our terms. We have only looked stretched once, and on that occasion you just have to tip your hat to York for a great try. No massive failings on our part for that try imo.

In attack, Connor has looked rusty but he has also had a few lovely touches and I'm excited to see what he does in better conditions. The speed he can get the ball out of his hands will create a lot of opportunities for us. Reynolds looks lively and him and Connor are linking up really well. Mau's try looked very simple on the face of it but our attacking shape on that play was great. Connor had bags of options on that play and that's incredibly hard to defend against. I've also noticed a lot more players sniffing around looking for those half breaks and offloads. Reynolds, Connor, Sneyd, even Swift a few times. All getting right on the shoulder of the forwards looking for that half chance.

Fonua looks fitter than he did all last season. Bowden also looks in great shape.

I'd like to see us put a few more moves on and chance our arm a little bit more, but I'm really positive about what we've done so far.

York look a handy team. It'll be interesting to see how they get on in the Championship this year.

They are giving us a good challenge here. They are well drilled in defence.

Second half has been a bit scrappy, to be expected with all of those changes though.

Yeah, looking like York will pinch it now. Been a bit of a shambolic last 10 minutes.

doesnt help when Mcnamara keeps kicking off just to the York 20 in the same spot.Losing 20 meters each time

Typical friendly. looked well in control with the full team at half time. Second half too many changes to get any continuity. York looked good. Might go and see the odd game of theirs later in the year when FC aren't playing

Bit of a drama queen there.

First team did well, York smelt blood when the youngsters came on but they will be better for it. Don't think we have found the new Ratu.

Overall decent hit out, victory and no serious knocks. Move on now, no team ever finishes the season the way they played in a friendly.

The way we dealt with some of the kicks in the second half was very poor. In fact there weren't too many positives from the second half full stop. It was a bit of a mess really, but not really surprising with all the chopping and changing. The last 20 minutes we didn't have anyone from our starting spine on the field and I think that showed. I'd have been tempted to leave either Reynolds or Sneyd on to help direct the youngsters around a bit, but it's no big deal.

On the plus side, Brown looked really strong, Wynne is a handful and I think young Hookem has something about him.

I saw enough from the first half to see that we have made improvements in some of the areas we needed to, so I'm happy enough.

Bossed it in the first half, players go off and back ups come in and defensive line speed drops, players start dropping balls in every set and we only just win - yes i know its a friendly and you cant read too much into it so

Some players did reasonably well - No FC player was a standout imo - Faraimo can be great in attack when he can hold the ball but he cant defend but it looks like the coach is gonna go with Swift anyway.

Lots of aimless kicks - only Sneyd kicked well and was the best half for FC, bit of a quiet debut for Reynolds - Sneyd and Connor outshone him in attack

Bit early to say that about the new Ratu. He did ok but never got a chance to show what he's got really. He looks strong and physical and he didn't look out of place imo. We don't have a huge squad so I'd be tempted to give him a small 1 year contract and see how he develops.
