| I just don't get why someone would watch a team play 27 games over 8 months with the aim of making the play-offs. Then when the team makes the play-offs and the games mean something you don't bother to go.
Money isn't an excuse, it was only £15, if you really wanted to go you could have saved a couple of quid a month throughout the season knowing you'd have to pay for a play-off ticket come September.

It's not only £15 if you are a family. Two adults, two children and car parking comes to rather more than £15, I suspect. And it may surprise you to learn that people have other things in their lives than rugby league.

| It would have cost upwards of £60 for my family to go to that game. Thats why we buy season passes.
Airlie Street is just another muppet who loves rugby just a little too much and berates others for not being the superfan he is.

| I think the fact that we finished 6th this year and last year but got a bigger attendance last year than this year says a lot. Last year we had a poor showing against Widnes but turned it around with a 70-6 win (the biggest win for years) followed by a good win at home to Castleford. There was an upbeat feel and we were playing well.
This year we had a poor showing against Wigan at Wembley which we getting over is easier said than done, the win in the league was maybe fortuitous, I didn't go, then we have I dare say an even worse showing at home to Saints with a home play off unlikely. With that leading up to it you can see why we had more last year despite finishing in the same position. My dad and I went but he wasn't sure about it. Our home form was also much worse this year

I'm not judging anyone for not going, I miss plenty of games over the season due to work and other commitments, I just don't understand the mindset of someone that invests so much time and money across the season only to be not bothered when the games mean something.

Suddenly 6,000 people are too busy to go to a game?
If the tickets were included in their passes I'm sure their hectic social schedules would have been put on hold, that's just a ridiculous argument.
Like I said, I'm not judging people for not going, that would be hypocritical because I haven't been to every game this season, I just don't understand the mindset of people who invest 8 months in something and then don't see it out.
To be fair it's not restricted to our fans, it happens across the league.

You should read what's posted before jumping head first into a response. You'll look less daft, that way. Some will have stayed at home for financial reasons, some because of work/social commitments and others in protest at the performance served up the week before. How many fall into each category is impossible to know without carrying out an exhaustive survey.

The first is understandable but avoidable (for reasons explained previously), the second happens every week and the third is personal preference but only highlights my point.

This is pointless, your obviously trying to justify your reasons or others for not attending, your wasting your time because I don't care, each to their own and all that.
What I am questioning is the way fans across the league invest so much time and money watching their teams battle for the play-offs only to not be bothered when they get there, seems bizarre to me.

And I think that RG's point is that it's not that they're 'not bothered', it's that they have other reasons for not being able/willing to pay for the earlier matches.

Yes. As I mentioned earlier in the thread (or maybe the VT one), I have paid out more than £700 in vet's fees this month. This was an unexpected expense that during the regular season wouldn't have stopped me attending as I had a season pass. When I would have had to pay for a ticket, it did prevent me from going.

Ah, yes, your awesome 'put a couple of quid away every week' plan. Perhaps people have more to save for than a trip to the rugby? Hull Fair is coming up, and for people who don't have much money, maybe they can only afford to do one or the other? Maybe people were saving for holidays during the season and couldn't afford to save for both? Maybe some people saved some money but then had to spend it on something else. Not everyone has loads of money, and not everything is as simple as you're trying to make out.
Quote True it wasn't, I have put that argument forward to highlight the huge flaw in yours.'"

Your first post said that people had 'no excuse' not to attend. If thinking people need an excuse isn't judging them for not going, I'm not sure what is.
Quote This is pointless, your obviously trying to justify your reasons or others for not attending, your wasting your time because I don't care, each to their own and all that. '"
That is absolutely not what I'm doing - quite the reverse. I'm saying that people do not need to justify their decision not to attend a rugby match.
Quote What I am questioning is the way fans across the league invest so much time and money watching their teams battle for the play-offs only to not be bothered when they get there, seems bizarre to me.'"
And as I've pointed out several times, there are a whole host of reasons why people might not have gone other than 'not being bothered'.

| Why not incorporate one home play-off game in the cost of a season pass, indeed and/or a home challenge cup game as well, both as options.
Make whatever the add on price competetive/big enough carrot for people to want to take up the option, if we don't get a homegame in either comp then the fans get the differential back at the end of the season or the money off their next season pass whichever they choose.
Just a thought

I think good idea. Just bang 15 quid on price and give fans r4 challenge cup and one home playoff game. Down to luck then and if nothing doing so what. If get 2 games for 15 then great.

I once asked the club about this a few years ago and was told that it was something they would like to do, but were not allowed to for the playoffs because the RFL get the money. The first home Challenge Cup game has been done.

Yes and Smailes confirmed on Twitter Hull had sold 1218 tickets. Therefore:

whatever the differential is in terms of sales would still be alloted to the RFL, you just have x amount sold as part of a package added on at a pre-set price beforehand. there's nothing difficult in deducting walk up payers from pre-paid and working out how much needs to be given after any deductions. pretty simple and with a basic program in excel takes about 10 mins tops. Add in another 15-20 mins to change the options on season tickets (+1/+2 CC game at x amount, + 1 play-off game)
With an incentive as an add on figure to a pass holder to pay for it upfront It would invariably increase sales for home CC matches/1st play -off games so for the effort/time. Even if the club have to pay it back they effectively get a free loan of the money. it's a win/win IMO
just sounds like laziness/short sightedness tbh.
