| I imagine a lot of our fans won't remember that far back.
We only averaged 4600 and 4300 in the 2 seasons he was with us (1992-3 and 1993-4), so don't listen to the thousands who will claim they were there !!!
Looking back, it was very poor support (albeit in a very very poor ground) for a team that at times was dazzling.
Maybe that's the answer though - we were crap away from home and didn't make the top 8 in either season.

| There are a couple of games that spring out during that period.
The cup lose to Wigan 22-21, The game against Widnes in teh Regal trophy which was freezing, the easter derby in 94 when Paul Sterling burned down the wing for a great try and the hammering of Leigh when James Grant scored 5 and Jeff Doyle scored 4.

Yes - I do think if we had beaten Wigan that day we just might have gone on to do something !
Remember all those games well, and I actually bought a "tries of the season" video at the end of 93-94. That performance against Leigh was something else :¬) Best we played for years - I don't think we reached that level again until 2002.

The home game against Saints (on sky) also sticks in my mind from that year. It was Andy Dannatts first game back at The Boulevard as a Saint and Steve Prescott's first team debut but they just couldnt handle Chico and Timmy Street our props that evening!

| The wigan game floored me, was only a young(ish!) lad at the time. Fond memories of a period of underachievement tho, seemed a much less traumatic experience being distinctly average in them days!
Think I remember an away loss to Doncaster after being something like 20 points up at half time or am I getting my bad memories mixed up?

that was the year after m8, when it all went very badly wrong (and we ended up outside of the new Super League). Awful season

Hasler was fantastic that night - 2 tries IIRC and one of them only grazed the white paint on the tryline.
never realised it was Preccies first game though. I've got it on video so will have to take a look some time.

| Top man Royce Simmons.
Those were the days
Still have James Grant's season 1994 number 4 playing shirt courtesy of the late Vice President Peter Jopling of SJ Electrical.
In the sponsor's box watching Tim Street, Danny Divet, Paul Sterling and other thru 10 cans of Tetley bitter on a misty Boulevard evening.

We beat Wigan that season I think , Jeff Doyle was unbelievable that night at 6 in windy night . Andy Farrall Kicked a drop out from under his sticks and the ball went dead at Hull's end .

| the 22-21 Wigan game, is that the one Offiah scored to win it? I remember being in 3d stand with my brother watching a Wigan game, we were brilliant 1st half then Wigan upped the ante and won it near the end.
It was a time when Wigan were at their very best (as a trophy winning club)

| Royce deserves a round of applause from the stands on Monday, his efforts to go beyond what most coaches do for their clubs was astounding and not matched even today. His efforts brought one of my all time favourates here...Des Hasler, which i recall (along with one or two others) almost froze to death on that freezing evening against Widnes!!!!! IIRC they had to wrap him in foil at HT!!!

If I remember correctly, Shaun Edwards scored right on half time to make it 21-6 and the whole mood changed, I still think if they hadn't scored then, we would have gone o to win that game.
The Regal Trophy Widnes game mentioned earlier, is that the one where Des Hasler got Hypothermia? I remember being at the round before that as well. It was against Leigh, someone put a bomb up for them, it went over the sticks and the ref gave a drop goal!!

| The Wigan game, just before half time, we where 21 0 up and they kicked to the corner where we were stood in the Gordon Street end. Paul Sterling tried to catch it, fluffed it and they scored. Why didn't he just knock it dead? Still asking myself now!
Didn't Danny Divet throw out an interception pass for thier winning try?
That was the beginning of the end in that game.
Still remember it vividly now and still rankles.
Hopefully the fans that do remember what Simmons tried to do for the club, will be remembered tomorrow.

| I loved the period under Royce more than any time at the KC. Remember him walking up to 3d stand, throwing us a load of freebies and shouting to us "Sing like you've never sang before!" and us singing "Super Simmo's barmy army" for an entire half!! We had poor crowds in comparison to now, but it always felt like there was miles more.
