In light of developments with Tansey I think it was an absolute no brainer we signed Phelps. We clearly saw him as a last resort.

It's a start but we still need at least two more additions IMO.

feck me - two? Some will never be satisfied? One more will be enough. And, although no-one meant Phelps when they mentioned big signings, he is certainly no mug. This is a good, fast professional response to the difficult spot that Tansey put the club in. Hats off to the board I say.

To be fair this makes sense, why else would they give williams a full time contract if we were signing sammut. As soon as it fell through im sure that's when they decided to give williams a contract

Unimpressed, if this is our only signing, he'll be ok for cover but we have lost 2 players who can really make an impact, shows how dire the situation is. Quota spot too.

My hubby agrees with you , I am not so sure though tbf Hubby has seen Phelps play more than me, so I hope he is correct.

Ok I guess none of us are jumping up and down at this news but he signed for Wigan who don't sign bad players and he would get a berth with many SL teams.

He's a good player who if he stays injury free will add quality and versatility in a number of positions and signing him will undoubtedly strengthen our squad.

Clearly this is a last resort signing but what do you expect with less then a week to go to the new season?

We were left in the e by Tansey and desperately need cover...not overwhelmed myself but will do a decent job for us i think!!

Good signing for you lot, can play in a few positions, although he's clearly best at 1, especially coming in as 3rd reciever, he can put some real bullet passes out to the wings.

Glad he has found a new team, was very shocked that he hadn't after leaving Wigan if I'm honest.

not sure why another club didn't sign him earlier. the only reason i can think of is their overseas quota was full

A decent signing for us to be honest and if I'm honest I think he's a far better fullback than Tansey.

I think with a 1 year deal it gives us the benefit of him wanting to show what he can do to either tempt the club into extending his stay or to secure a deal elsewhere so for me its a hands down win/win for us.

Quota player ?

Play him at centre or wing and he'll be no more than solid. But if Hull show a bit of faith in him and trust him at 1 or 6/7 where we can show off his playmaking skills I think he'll be an excellent signing for you. There were times in his stay at Wigan when it was evident why he played halfback for the Australian Schoolboys. He's agile, quick off both feet, can find a killer pass and can kick a bit as well.

Don't forget, the only reasons he was released at Wigan was his status as a quota player and bad luck with injury in 2010. In 2009 and the start of last year, he was a key player for us.

You think Phelps would have been signed if the whole Tansey saga had not have happened??

Berrigan leaving is not the clubs fault neither just one of those things.

I believe the club have been looking at other signings it just hasnt happened..
