| Quote ="Jake the Peg"Lots of talk about agar clearing out the deadwood at the end of the season but are the deadwood? Suppose it depends how you define deadwood
The players off contract are:
Byrne - already gone but hardly deadwood
Thackray - possible deadwood but probably our best prop over the last month or two
Cusack - similar to byrne, not spectacular but deadwood?
lee - not the greatest player in the world but bags of effort and improving
whiting - one of the most consistent performers in the team but would he be a starter if we're at full strength?
Hodgson - surely can't be described as deadwood
Tony - one of our best players last season before his injury IMO
thorman - dead as wood can be but only been here a season so can't really be considered as fundamental to the problems at the club
g horne - averageness personified
maloney - looks a good prospect. SHould have had more gametime IMO
moa - waste of an improt slot
So the ones off contract can hardly be described as deadwood IMO. Unless by deadwood they mean players who are just average in which case tehre are some but not enough to fundamentally change things around unless they use the spare cap from this season to get rid of the likes of dowes, king and radford'" Dont think Thacks will be too bothered,to be honest he as more than one club who will definatley take him on in superleague.Noticed something about Thacks, never seems to get injured and thats why other teams will want him.But we always seem to let players go what want to play for us,nevermind are loss someone elsies gain

Yet when we signed him (1st time round) people moaned because he was "injury prone" (2 broken arms in a year at Cas IIRC).

Thats one of the reasons id keep him for another year, although he blows hot and cold, he is 99% of the time available

All my opinion of course but i think Whiting is a squad player at best, people say his future is in the pack yet he ran full tilt at Mguire two weeks ago and made no impact at all.
I feel for Hall and the reason i would let him go is because our coaching staff dont have the ability to teach him anything. I think if Hall went to rovers Justeeen would take him under his wing and turn him into some sort of world beater

cant argue with these 6... i think motu will be replaced at full-back by tansey, thorman is a definate gonner due to his appaling form so far, radford offers us nothing that an average superleague player on low wages would do, we could save a small fortune if he went....cusack is a plodder, solid but nowt better than an average forward, g.horne has had too many chances and still has no set position, king..gives %100 but doesnt play enough games...
these sort of players would not get in any of the top 4 teams in my opinion..maybe tony when fit, but i cant see many more wanting our cast-offs....

| King - not good enough, best days are well passed him
Radford - not good enough never has been and offers nothing
Cusack - average plodder waste of a quota spot
Thorman - nowhere near good enough
Tony - isn't a FB for me and also becoming injury prone
Lee - not good enough 3rd or 4th choice hooker don't need him
G Horne - not good enough and has no real position
Dowes - average plodder offers nothing in attack
That is quite a lot of salary cap space that could be spent a thousand times better

I don't care what you say, you can't just have a whole pack of explosive players. You need work horses as well, granted we have too many. But Dowes maybe doesn't offer alot in attack but he's a damn hard worker and a very good defender, he should definately stay. Cusack also isn't a plodder, however I think he will probably leave anyway. Lee has earned at least another year imo and as much as I like Tony he isn't good enough to be first choice fullback and I don't really see where he will fit in elsewhere. Radford to go, again a work horse but I would rather have Dowes than Radders tbh, I don't think there is enough room for both. Thorman and Horne can go for me.

| Players i would consider releasing from there contracts or not renew deals.
Motu tony - maybe a bit harsh he's been out for a long time but he needs to improve, he lacks quality under the high ball but if he can get back to the form of 2006 he would be fantastic.
Chris Thorman - For me he as done enough damage, and needs a fantastic second half to the year, for me he came in for his kicking game and at times hes none existant.
Peter Cusack - Would consider giving him a new deal but he's to much like Dowes and a waste of a import position.
Lee Radford - Too many back row forwards and Lee offers the least options.
Greame Horne - Would also consider a new deal, as a utility player he has great effort and not bad player but depends on who we can get in to replace him.
I think we desperatly need a centre and a real go forward prop to replace carvell if not two.
Could also do with a full back and winger then i think we would be complete.

agree with this but wait on tony to see if he can get into form after what was a serious injury
fitz for radford (cant see agar doing this though)
tansey for horne
long for thorman
we need a centre and prop to complete the jigsaw but i hope we dont go like for like with the props. we have never really replaced carvell and need a go forward player

Really don't think we need another one. Calderwood, Raynor and Briscoe will be fine. If need be, Hall can play there, or we could just take a Leeds fringe player on loan again.

| Thorman - not good enough
Cusack - plodding workhorse, never threatens the line, waste of a quota spot
Tony - thanks for everything but time to move on
Dowes - plodding workhorse, never threatens the line
King - great servant but all good things come to an end
Whiting - great player but sadly and crucially no speed
Radford for me has been playing like a plodding prop all season and given that role I think he would offer more than both Cusack and Dowes. At least he has a presence about him.
Tommy Lee has shown enough (just) to warrant another contract and should improve with the influence of Long.
G.Horne has done a solid job without ripping up any trees but he has more pace than Whiting.
Saying this though the biggest doubt for me is the coaching team!
With no apparent ideas regarding tactics, team selection or the interchanges, I think Mr Agar is out of his depth as a SL head coach. The most important role at the club is the head coach and no amount of money should be spared in securing the best that money can buy.

Workhorses are not meant to break the line every time they run with the ball, i cant agree on people saying get rid of Dowes, great defender and works hard all the time he is on the pitch, a must keep for me.
