I know Agar is a terrible coach and we'll never amount to anything while he's running things, so I can understand wanting to lose games in the short term in order to his accelerate his removal and hopefully the appointment of a proper head coach that would ensue.

That said when it comes to game day I can't help but want us to win, although if for example in the last game of the regular season we had to win just to scrape into the top 8 then I would want us to lose because by then Agar would have proven beyond any doubt how bad he is, but sneaking into the playoffs would probably be used by Rule and co as reason enough to keep him on.

I really don't think that makes me any less of a fan.

Rule and co have given him a 2 year deal, even though he's proved in his tenure so far that he's not a very good coach, so don't hold your breath with regards the scenario you've just described

Hypothetically you would want us to lose the last game in order to NOT make the play-off's just because you do not rate Richard Agar, I am sorry but that is bleeding ridiculous!!!
Agar is just one spoke in the wheel of Hull FC...there is the rest of the coaching staff, the squad and most importantly the 1000s of dedicated fans, but hey ho let us not achieve any thing because you do not rate the coach

Don't really see how thats ridiculous at all. You scrape into the play-offs at 8th your probably going to be crashing out anyway. He is willing to sacrifice short term minor success to remove agar and possibly bring in a top class coach and potentially get long term success.

As he said he cant help but want his team to win on match day but thinking rationally he would give up short term success for long term gain, because of a desire to want his club to win trophies and compete consistently long term.

And as for Agar only being a spoke in the wheel, he's already seen off two assistants who had far more experience than himself and for a long time I've been calling for a clean sweep of all the coaching/technical staff; Crookes, Last, Pope etc... None of them are up to the job.

well put, i would definetely give up short term success (ie scraping into the 8, and crashing out at the 1st hurdle) if it meant a clean sweep of ALL the coaching staff, i think this club/supporters deserves a great coach, and IMO Agar unfortunately doesnt do it, although if he does, i will be as happy as the next fan, i just cant see it, unfortunately!

ah the old 'who is there out there to replace them with' argument. It's wishful thinking to hope to get rid of them all, but I don't think it's too outlandish to hope that people who consistently fail at what they are paid to do get replaced with fresh blood.

What makes you think if Agar was sacked he would be replaced by "a proper head coach"? It didn't happen when his predecessors were sacked.

No guarantees at all, but at least we'd be shot of Agar and hopefully the board will have learnt their lesson as far as taking cheap options goes. I agree though it wouldn't be certain to happen.

Our chances of recruiting a top coach would be improved dramatically if we could also offer them free reign over the composition and recruitment of the coaching set-up to work under them.

Been out of the country, so didn't see the Cas game...

my view on things currently is that I'm happy to be 4th, and happy that we've improved our form despite several injuries.

however to take a cynical view on it, Catalan and Cas are struggling down at the bottom and therefore are games we'd hope to win anyway. I am also very concerned that we struggle to win without Long, and that it'll only take a knock in training, a late hit on the field or simply be marked out of a crucial game (such as a playoff) and that's our season over. We can't just rely on one man to create things.

I think the Saints game will be a big test, and will give us a better indicator of how our season will pan out.

Its not a view i share but i kind of understand where people would be coming from with that view. Initial defeat for the greater good and all that. I'm sure the Man Utd fans would take 2 months of solid defeats if it meant the Glazers sold up and cleared off for example. As i say, im not in that camp but sometimes desperation makes people do and feel in non-normal ways.

Why would anyone be that desperate though? Regardless of how unconvinced anyone might be about Agar the fact is that we're currently 4th in the table despite our annual injury crisis and likely to finish with a decent playoff spot. It seems more like petulant foot-stamping than anything else TBH.
