AL's interview after the Salford game sounded vey much like Peter Gentle just before he got the chop, you/I could sense it in his voice.

McNamara signed a three year contact last October which would theoretically take him until the end of 2022.

His coaching career is a mixed bag for me. Poor at Bradford but the club seemed in a downward spiral of doom and debt anyway. He improved England and was 20seconds away from a World Cup Final, then at Catalans won the cup but they are inconsistent in the league and as you say have an expenaive squad. Also spent time in the sucessful Sydney Roosters setup.

On the whole id give him a chance, but id prefer someone with no ties at all to the club, a fresh pair of eyes on the full club. I fear he would know many of the players through his Son and club ties.

Was coming on here to say that it wouldn't surprise me if McNamara was given the role...beaten to it! He was hamstrung at Bradford with the Iestyn Harris fiasco, did ok with England I thought, studied under Trent at the Roosters and had won a CC with Catalans. Not sure he is the one to put people in their place though

Tim Sheen's would be a good fit. Won it all, great work ethic. You need a coach who's won stuff at highest level I think.
Keep hearing Danny Wards name.
Would be OK as deputy, with a view to future, but Def not as Head coach at this stage imho

Agreed, he has varied experience way beyond Hull FC which many have said is critical. Has he got the most out of a very good squad in France? Not certain but he's won a trophy with them I guess.

I don’t know how old Tim is, but he must be in his seventies, now I’m not being ageist, but speaking from my own point of view, just getting my socks on is a major achievement

We need a coach with authority, who's coached in environments with a winning mentality, this rules out ward and Watson for me. I'd like a coach who knows what standards are required and is ruthless in achieving them.

McDermott for me ticks the boxs

I honestly don't think that I could stomach the thought of McDermott

He simply took over a very very good team and slowly ruined it.
He is perhaps the only SL coach I would rate worse than what we now have.

Yes he only won the Grand Final four times, World Club Championship once and Challenge Cup twice.

And like many coaches on these forums, there was a long=#0040FF McDermott out thread before he eventually went.

Football managers,coaches in Rugby,tennis,golf and several other sports all have a limited lifespan.
The key is to get out when you are at the top and not many do that.

I don’t think Leeds fans were particularly convinced by him throughout his tenure.

All the while he coached them to every trophy available.

To be honest, I’d take anyone who’s going to come in with fresh ideas and a new outlook.

McDermott accused Pearson of being naive..
So unless AP is particularly thick skinned I can’t see him employing him as our coach..

McDermott did come out recently apologising for his comments and behaviour at the start of the year though.....maybe with his application being in the post was the reason for that

Most of us were pretty pleased with him. We had to watch sone absolutely dire stuff for most of his reign, but he pulled it round come playoffs, so we forgave him.
I actually don't think his style of technical coaching is that good (despite Peacock and Sinfield saying he's the best coach they've ever played for....)

It was his bluddy stupid comments. He began to sound like David Icke - expected him to recommend yogic flying

He definitely started to get a bit odd towards the end of his Leeds tenure didn't he. I sometimes thought the pressure was getting to him a bit.

I'm warming to the idea of having Danny Ward (with Jamie Langley) come in. Watson, Powell, and Wane are all pipe dreams. I can't see McDermott coming in after he criticised AP earlier in the year.

Ward has continually had to rebuild his London side and got them overachieving every season. He's developed youth too while with them like Walker, Bienek and Butler. He's also brough players in on the 'cheap' who are now in most teams starting 17, Kear, Williams; Abdul, Battye, Cunningham, Gee, Pitts, Yates.

Going by what AP has said we're going to need to tighten the purse strings over the next few seasons too. If Kelly and Jones leave, hopefully Ward can find us a decent replacement at the fraction of the price. I'd be tempted to add Shaul to that list as well and see what fullbacks are on the market. Salford and Cas have proven recently you don’t need to break the bank to compete at the top end of the table.

I know his team got relegated but in reality, they didn’t stand a chance, the London squad had the smallest budget of any SL team, but he got them to within 80 mins of survival. His teams have a strong bond and has created a great fighting spirit. We seem to have a bit of a soft underbelly, too many times in the last few seasons when the going gets tough we just roll over. Plus, they played a good attacking style too.

Danny Orr is leaving Cas. Reading their statement it sounds like he has a head coach job lined up...
