| What rubbish, why would McKinnon sign for buttons?
He had another 18 months on his nzw deal!
He went for first team rugby with Wests who ended up one game away from the grand final!

This is the point I made earlier on. The BOD quite clearly have a plan and are sticking to it for good or ill - so far it's not produced the results that the fans want. IMO that's because of a fundamental underestimation of the importance of a good coach with plenty of experience.'"
Lol and my comment before is that they are failing to deliver a long term plan (hence the list I gave of last minute signings) AND there ideas and coaching leaves a lot to be desired.
To have a plan and it's execution fails is one thing
To fail because you couldn't plan/deliver a plan is totally unacceptable.

The list of last minute signing is totally irrelevant for the reasons I put in my response. We had players in those positions that we lost due to circumstances beyond our control so we had to react to the situation we found ourselves in.
I still say that there is plenty of evidence that the club does plan ahead, but that the plan isn't delivering the results that the fans want. If anything the club is [itoo[/i focused on the long term and not enough on delivering success on the pitch in the short/medium term. There's a balance to be found and we haven't found it.

They really are pinning their hopes that their belief in Richard Agar will bear fruit and seem to have seen him as a "project" much in the same way as Moa was seen as one by Agar. I do believe they will find it difficult to justify (even to themselves) keeping him if we don't make at least one of the finals though. I also think we have seen a glimmer of hope in the rugby being played running up to the Hudersfield game. If that game turns out to be a blip and we continue to improve I can see us all having to book our Wembley tickets although I think Old Trafford is probably too much to ask now.
If we make a final this year then their "plan" might not be so disastrous but their "plan" should also be to get us into the top 4 next year and to stay there thereafter.

| Quote ="JMR"Yes, I will accept that Laffranchi has had a couple of injuries this season, but we are not talking about a complete knee reconstruction like McKinnon (which, like it or not, set him back massively as a player).
A forward is always going to have a longer shelf-life than a back anyway.
Remember, only last season Laffranchi was an integral and outstanding performer in a side which was one game away from a Grand Final.
MicKinnon was on the scrap-heap, offering himself for 'buttons' after being released by the mid-table Warriors!'"
Didn't Mark O'Meley come over after knee reconstruction, not turned out a bad player has he. I'll reserve judgement and see how he responds when he's over here.

| I do think that we've had a certain amount of luck this season with players like Phelps, Gleeson and Obst becoming available when they did. It makes you wonder where we'd be if hadn't been able to pick up those three on the back of Tansey and Berrigan going.
The one thing I would say on the 'forward planning' front is that we went into the season without the much talked about halfback cover that everyone knew we needed. Surely it wouldn't have been unreasonable to have tried to get Obst here in the off-season? Anyway, now that we have the squad we have (with no real injuries of note) we really have to kick on and get moving up the table. If we finish 7th or 8th this season that is an underachievement and there won't be any excuses in my opinion.

| Quote ="SirStan"He was Leigh's No. 7 in the 2006 season, so Webbo will know all about his limitations in that position. I still recall the little ginner completely outplaying him at Craven Park on Easter Monday when we thrashed Leigh. Saying that, he clearly has improved his game with a switch in positions. Certainly better at hooker than anything we currently have at Rovers, but no way a SL standard 7.'"
I remember that day well, Heremaia didn't make much of an impact from scrum half. James Webster was the best in that division and ran the show.
However he did have a very good season for Leigh and was very highly rated by their fans. Since then he has moved to hooker and done well at a much higher level.
He could be a decent signing and I also think he will still be capable of switching back to No. 7 if needed which has to be useful. Be interesting to know his status re. quota and non-fed if he is exempt in at least one then he is worth the gamble.

Not sure think its more a method of surgery but the injury was obviously significant enough to knock him out for the season.

There is a world of difference on the effect a debilitating leg injury can have on the performance of a back compared to a forward, particularly when they are on the wrong side of 30.
The world and his wife (with the possible exception of Sheldon) will tell you that McKinnon's pace has 'gone' since his knee was shot.

| Was positive about signing a 21 year old english player but then all this was lost to see we signed a finished aussie an a hooker never played top level consistently, the southern hemisphere agents must love it when they cannot find find a club for finished players to then see HFC We need to be building a youg team not patching a new team each year hoping for one season success.

I dont make mistakes as far a 'forward Planning' is concerned. I dont want to get into the argument about how long I have been a supporter - and yes Hull FC have been my passion for so long you dont really want to know. The Club I admire more than any other are ST Helens - they have constantly been at the top in all my years. They dont need to 'Forward Plan' it just happens. Would really have loved to be like them - our success years are so few but I would have liked in all these years more than the odd Yorkshire Cup win and 2 Challenge Cup wins. Anyway maybe next year!

Nathan Fien, Lance Hohaia, Andrew Johns, David Shillington, Trevor Thurling, Joel Monaghan, Josh Miller, Michael Ennis, Trevor Thurling (2nd), Ashley Harrison, Wes Naiqama, Brent Tate, Darren Lockyer, Shane Tronc, Shannon McDonnell, William Zillman, Will Chambers, Willie Mason, Steve Turner, Brett Seymour, William Zillman (2nd), Ben MacDougall, Adam Woolnough, Steve Michaels, James Aubusson, Brent Tate (2nd),
and thats only the "top" players upto and including '09 you could and Campese, Vatuvai, Tate (3rd) and many others to that list.
Wouldn't want any of those playing for us would we?

Kosh Berro probably went home early due to being sick of being moved around all the time due to our crazy half back release/appointment decisions.
Turner...god only knows where the club feels his position is....Is Prat a technical expression Kosh?
Gleeson appointment is at a least consistent in releasing players with alleged indiscipline issues to only appoint new players with alleged indiscipline issues.
I think we have been incredibly fortunate for phelps and Obst to come along...but they aren't an example of planning....more desperation.

Do you really think that the continuous success enjoyed by Saints 'just happens'?

Berro was moved around due to injury problems. And you're just guessing at why he left in any case.
I meant Tansey rather than Turner. My typo.
How many times has Gleeson been in breach of the Saints discipline code? Do you not think he's worth the risk?
I didn't say that these signing were an example of forward planning FFS. The point is that they are a reaction to a situation that couldn't have been planned for. You seem to be struggling with this concept.
