Another problem with our rigid salary structure IMO. I can understand why it was put in place with the position we were in at the time, but I think it's now holding us back. It means we would automatically make the same sort of offer to someone like Aspinwall (hypothetically) as to Ryan Hall (again, hypothetically). Now is that really a wise way to use the cap?

It's why we have had so many average players taking up squad space on apparently decent wages, and also why we don't enter bidding wars and thus don't sign top players in their prime.

Bottom line questions of what to pay a player: How much worth will he bring to our team? How much are others willing to pay him?

For example, if we've lost out on LMS to Saints for money reasons and not trophy potential, we have to question why a better side than us think he will be more valuable to them than we do.

Ultimately people are only worth what someone will pay for them. If we need a 7 for example we should be prepared to pay more as they are effectively worth more to us.

How? Firstly he has to agree to go and then he'd want paying off (quite rightly) which would leave us with a quota spot but no money with which to fill it.

Can you imagine a FTSE 100 market leading professional services company turning down the brightest marketeer out there because he wanted £150,000 per year and they had limited themselves to £125,000.

I do not want to see Colbon leave Rovers. His season has been blighted by injury, but early doors he was outstanding; 6 tries in 7 games, then injury struck, in the form of a late cheap shot by a Catalan player.
