Are we? Can't Catalans catch us?

I am including the OP. But there were plenty of other daft comments.

I will however hold my hands up and say I worked it out wrong. I thought it was now assured since the clubs below us have to play eachother. But I think there is one very specific outcome:

We need to lose every game (obviously).
Warrington now can't catch us.
Catalans need to win every game and overturn a 200ish PD.
Hudderfield need to win 5/6 but lose against Wigan.
Wigan need to win 4/5 but lose to Catalans.
Saints need to win 3/6 and two of their losses need to be against Hudds and Catalans.
Wakefield need a win from anywhere.

Or in short. Theres more chance of me winning the euromillions two weeks running.

After a battering by saints and losses to 2 bottom 4 clubs it was a concern that our season had completely gone off the rails so while the middle 8's were unlikely, they were far from an impossibility

It was a huge overreaction to a few poor performances. It was possible in the same way that possibly Oxford might suddenly take league 1 by storm and beat Toronto 50-0 in the promotion final. It was never going to happen.

You wouldn't be saying that if the wigan and Salford games had gone as most people had expected.

Perhaps not. And I definately wouldnt have been saying it if we were 0 wins from 17. But neither those things happened did they. And "most people" can speak for themselves.

And if we did lose Catalans would have still needed 4/5, the chances of which are slim.

They've got Steve McNamara on board now though.

Tbf I think thats a good appointment.

I know some sports fans like to be pessimistic but how could any Hull fan seriously think they were in danger of the Middle 8's a few weeks back. Until the last 2 wins you could've been in danger of sliding down a few spots to around 6/7 and making a top 4 spot hard work but the bottom 4 are well off points and performance wise. Hull have been a bit Jekyll & Hyde this year and put in a few awful performances (as most have) but never looked like they'd go on a long run of bad form.

Be good to have london, toronto, tolouse and les cats in SL. get rid of deadwood like wakey and salford and make sure rovers stay down and it's sorted

can anyone ever remember a match at home over the years against any sort of London team or catalan,that has had atmosphere or any sort away support,because I cant.these teams bring nothing to the game and never will.can you imagine a magic weekend with Toronto,toulouse,london and cats all in it.there would be nobody there.

If you go to RL just for the noise of the crowd, I suggest you go to the front doors of Kings Cross, that can be really noisy.

i can just imgine Toronto,toulouse,london scholars along with catalan getting to the cup semi finals.where would games be played?.double header at brantingham perhaps.as for whoever got to the final,the rugby league would have to get 40,000 cardboard spectator cutouts all wired up to clap and cheer every time someone scored.i assume if we had a league full of London,french,canadian or any other country,the leeds,wigans,hulls and castlefords could always join a French league.

I haven't heard your arguments for this "expansion". Maybe you could enlighten us?

For me I'm not sure expansion currently is the way to go. The salary cap has had time to take affect in SL and this season has shown with the likes of ourselves, Cas, Salford & Wakefield are in the top half ahead of the likes of St's, Wigan and lesser extend Warrington. It has been a much more competitive and open league than ever before.
One of the major negatives made by clubs and fans last time we had a larger SL was the lack of the number of quality players around to meet the needs of 14 teams. The other was the drop in income from the SKY money being shared between 14 instead of 12 teams.

I think before expansion is put in place it should be a requirement for each SL club to have their own junior development program/academy system in place and have to agree to invest an agreed amount in to this per season.

Why is there a need to change something that is clearly working in regards 12 teams and go back to 14 teams again which failed to improve the sport last time round.

There's even talk of licensing making a return. The system they ditched not so long ago.
God forbid the RFL should pick a system and stick with it. I wasn't a big fan of the current system at the beginning, but now it's bedded down it seems to have brought more parity to the competition.
The middle 8's are also shaping up to be an intriguing competition.
Now we're looking at changing things yet again. No wonder we struggle to get the sport credibility.
