In fact im struggling to think where their organisational play will come from next year as Pryce is a glorified centre/winger and Eastmond will end up being another Jason Robinson, out on the wing.
Think Longy will do a job for us if hes on the park, the sheer fact that were paying him a kings ransom will ensure he knows the importance of why hes being signed up.
Nobby for Director of Football now hes left Wigan?'"
Got the impression from the Sun excerpts that Long doesn't rate him, to say the least! Wonder if that isn't another reason he chose us over Wigan?

I wonder if you were watching the same Sean Long I was watching tonight? Perhaps there is a doppleganger out there ...
Longy was the best he has been since returning from injury tonight. Did you not notice his guile? Those two try saving tackles into touch? And what about his organisation? He never stopped! And he scored a try (almost two tries) We are going to miss him big time next season, and we know it.

Well played tonight good luck next week.
It's that long since we had a SH some on here can't remember what they are supposed to do
Have to say I don't see exactly where you have replaced Longy for next year. Has Eastmond actually signed or not ?

We'll have to agree to disagree here because for me he had a good game tonight. We've needed somebody to organise the team for years and there's not many better at it than Long.

Good question! It is believed that Eastmond turned down an offer from Saints and there are rumours he is heading for Sale Sharks RU. Since he has the same agent as Richie Myler, it's anyone's guess as to what he is going to do. It seems we are keeping tabs on young Matty Smith as he is on a month by month loan to Salford. Matty helped to get us to the 2007 Grand Final when Longy was out injured and while some think he is not a very creative scrum half, he is an organising one and an extremely good kicker (oh how we need a good kicker!). However, it's all up in the air at present. Next season certainly looks, er, interesting!

I hope your right, and we do need an organiser.
But more important we need an explosive general that creates for the likes of Horne,
Manu and Yeaman gaps have to be created nowadays in my opinion

I have a lot of time for Hull fans. I've enjoyed some good chats and banter with them, win or lose. But you are sounding a bit daft. I don't think any Saints fan would claim you are getting Sean Long at the peak of his career. That happened a few years ago. However, to claim that all he does is stand at first receiver and shouts now and again is, well, just daft. You need to watch him more closely and educate yourself.

| Think Long is an ok signing. Can't argue with his pedigree but we're not exactly going to build a team around him. My only worry is that if he gets injured were pretty much back to where we are now. Good go forward with no clue in the last 20. I fear another poor season unless we sign a stand off and move Horne.

| He is just what we need he is stong, organises, inspires and has the respect of those around him, something we are used to at scrum half... Not!
He will come in and do what Kieth Hepworth and Kevin Dick dd in the past, those two tackle last night showed real determination and were first class and the try he scored was down to sheer strenght and desire. I thought it was interesting what Wilkin said after the game about Saints having in the past relied on slight of foot and being quick off the mark to win games, now he says the forwards are becoming more and more involved with the out come of mtches. Long has adapted his game to suit that style of play.
Next season there will I believe be a lot of slugathons and our new pack should be well suited to that!
He's a character and a winner and He'll do for me!

=darkblueRegarding the poor passes and unimpressive kicks: some of that could have been down to the windy conditions. I'll ask the question, of all the quality scrum halves on show over the last few games, how many have outshone Sean Long by some distance?
If it was'nt for his try saving tackles he would nt have been mentioned tonght.
Was not happy with his signing at first, now even more unsure.

I'm willing to give him a chance to prove himself before criticising (Just as I did with Thorman)

How do you expect the majority on here to understand about these two Wilf?
I think when you actually watch what Long did last night we will all see just what he will bring. The pass to Meli for his second try, whilst not hitting the man as desired showed the vision (despite the eye injury) that we lack. There was ample time for Meli to gather and score before the defence got to him. He negated the sliding defence with that one pass. I hate to say it but we have not had that since Cooke. As a result I hope we see Raynor and Calderwood in the top 10 try scorers next year.
His cover tackles were precisely what you would expect of a SH. He was battling for his team all night.
He will also be on the field as the general we need. Encouraging the young lads and dictating the pace of the game. He will also help develop the players off the field on the training ground. In a similar way to Kearney when he was here and Jason Smith before him.
Other than that I totally agree with the man from Jersey a waste of a signing.

Actually I was stating he is a waste of a signing.
If you seriously can't see what he will bring to the club then you need to be educated. One man is never the answer. Over the years I have witnessed many a side get excited about one player.
Wakefield with Wally Lewis, Wire with Johns, Rovers with Cooke
The last time I watched RL it was a team game. A sum of 17 individual parts coming together as one. Supported by a squad of players and the back room staff. Long will bring a massive wealth of experience and big match know how. Together with Fitz and O'meley plus the experience we already have I am sure we will improve massively.
People are expecting alot of Long and his salary reflects that, but in answer to your question, no he is not the answer simply because its a TEAM GAME. But boy will he assist us along the way, on and off the pitch.
