Chase has been quality in a crap castleford side so with better players in Hulls side would be a hell of alot better you could say that about holdsworth and dobson also

Because he was better last season, this season he has been no where near imo, and like I mentioned his International appearances were very average, Chase would be a good signing on what we have but I would not define him as class, some class touches maybe but not class

And you would have been better off doing so. As I said, you're perfectly entitled to think and say that Dobson is a better player. In fact, I haven't even claimed you're wrong. What I find bizarre is to use a stat that on full analysis suggests the opposite of what you are saying as evidence to support your argument.

The stats are based on this season's performance, you're right. And what they say is that when Chase has played he has provided significantly more try assists than Dobson.



I haven't used him as our scapegoat, we have had more problems than just him. I have said he is pants though, and the fact that Steve McNamara has now picked him for the England Knights (coincidentally in the first squad since he has signed for Saints) does not lead me to change that opinion. We are well shut of him.

My point was again your inconsistency and selective criticism. You call Chase a show pony as part of why you'd prefer Dobson, yet he's the same. It's like saying you don't want a Stella because you don't like lager, so can you have a Carling instead please?

You are literally the biggest contradiction on this entire site. Championing Dobson while at the same time lambasting Chase as a show Pony who sometimes doesn't perform is just so nonsensical it could only come from you.

The one thing I will say in Chase's defence at international level is that he is asked to play an entirely different role to that which he plays for Castleford, which really doesn't help. I've never understood in any sport why national coaches have a habit of picking players based on what they do at club level and then asking them to do something completely different. Either pick them to do what they're good at, or pick somebody else who can do what you want.

I don't think they are the same though, I think Dobbo offers more to a team, he plays structured and as we know can kick 40/20s for fun and can kick goals. Some-one mentioned Chase is class as the players don't know what he is going to do, I still have visions of him passing Tickle a murder ball in the International, the problem is even his team mates don't know what he will do, the evidence is that he cannot play structured rugby and his try assists at International were nothing to shout about, this is my concern but like mentioned I would take him as he is a better option than what we presently have, although for the record I believe Holdsworth will prove to be a better signing than him if we get him.

I doubt Gentle will say go out there and do what you like, we play structured rugby and Chase will have to fit into that. It will be interesting to say the least if we sign him, but hopefully the try assists will keep coming

But allowing Chase the freedom to do things off the cuff alongside structure brought around by Holdsworth could be great. Houghton has developed his kicking game well over the years, and with Heremaia as well, we have plenty of options for a kicking game.

It could be and hopefully will be if he signs, Chase will hopefully understand we are not a one man team and we have quality across the park.

So open with that then, not that their try assists are on par (which is clearly false) and that Chase is just a show pony (which is just as levellable at Dobson). As it happens I still disagree with you about Dobson over Chase, but at least we can now agree to disagree on a matter of opinion rather than just going back and forward about the holes in logic/untruths in your argument.

Just to be clear your claiming the current Man of Steel (an award voted for by his peers) isn't actually very good at all because he had one poor game against us and didn't perform well against the best players in the world in a system he was unfamiliar with whilst surrounded by players he'd never played with before?

Neither of us really know which way he'll go, but both are at least as likely as each other. The fact that we are so keen on Chase combined with Gentle's background at Wests may even indicate us moving to a less structured system, though.

Sean Long failed at international level over a much longer period than Chase has. Did alright for Saints though.

Performances at half back for GB/England have little relation to how a player will go in SL.

Slight difference between playing against Superleague opposition every week & having 3/4 seasons of experience at that level, to playing against Aus/NZ in your first international tournament. Plenty of other top class players have been poor against the Aussies too.

You often get involved in arguments like these surrounding the technicalities of RL, but each time you get shown up. It's probably down to your tactic of going onto the Opta stats on the SL website, finding a stat you think suits your argument ,and coming to a VERY basic conclusion (Chase's try assists here for example), without taking into account any other factors out of said players control.

Yeah your right a couple of weeks training and 3 or 4 games should be more than enough instinctively know your role within a team and how your team mates play and to develop that telepathic understanding with your team mates so you can replicate your club form. Elite sport is a piece of p1$$.
